If you drink any kind of coke, stop. You would be amazed at how much sugar they contain.

Hi Meg ~

What wonderful steps you have taken to acknowledge that you wish to make a change, joined this site for advice and support and reached out to share your story.  YEAAAHHHHHH Meg!!!

With all due respect, you may wish to talk with your husband and let him know you would truly appreciate his support in your efforts to return to your former weight and to get healthier for you and your family.  Mercy808 is also correct that you can start eating healthier, even if you visit a fast food restaurant.

McDonald's has grilled chicken, side salads with low fat balsamic vinaigrette dressing, yogurt parfaits and fruit and yogurt snacks.

Here's a few things I can think of off the top of my head to get started.

1.  Make a list of what you will gain if you lose the weight and what it will cost you if you do not.  It can help you to view that list when you are making food choices as it allows you to make a conscious choice.  Helps us to be responsible for our choices as well.

2.  Clean out your cupboards - get rid of the food that that is not healthy or is a trigger food ... mine was chocolate and ice cream.

3.  Know your numbers - Do you know the number of calories to maintain your weight?  I took the liberty of figuring yours and at 23 years old, 5 ft 0 in, 140 pounds and based on a somewhat active lifestyle (includes light activity or moderate activity 2-3 times a week), you need to consume 1,900 calories to maintain your weight.

It takes a 3,500 calorie deficit to lose 1 lb.  So, if you lower your calorie intake by 500 calories a day, you should be able to lose 1 lb a week, which is the recommended rate to lose weight.

4.  Keep a food journal and write down everything you eat, the amounts and the calorie content.  Also keep track of your emotions by each meal.  In short order, it may allow you to see a correlation between overeating and an emotion or two.  This will help in developing a plan to do better the next time.

5.  Stay involved on this community for support and advice.  If you elect to keep in touch, I'd be happy to help.

6.  Implement some type of exercise ... anything that will get you moving.  There are so many different things to do now that the variety is amazing and you can try things you've never even thought of before.  I even tried belly dancing and, like Mercy, found it on youtube.  I also enjoy walking around the lake and just being out in nature.

7.  Read positive success stories & positive affirmations.  Here's a story that helped me.

ONE evening, and old Cherokee told his grandson about the eternal battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My boy, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.”

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.”

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, tolerance, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The boy thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

Here's a quote that helped me as well ... it challenged my abilities ... Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? Nelson Mandela

Finally ... a dear friend gave me these words ... BELIEVE even when it is not rational and good things WILL happen ...

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! It is our dream no one has a right to prevent us from reaching it, least of all us.

Eliminate the language that allows for excuse

- Not if, but when,
- Not try, but will
- Not hope,but belief

then it will not be a dream, it will be a reality.....live into it!

Please keep in touch and stay involved on this site; it can be crucial to your long-term success.  We'd be honored to share your journey!  Always remember, never, never, ever given up!

What I found helpful (obviously I didn't go through a pregnancy) is to watch what you eat.  Exercise has some limited benefit in terms of losing weight, and has a great benefit in keeping your muscles and heart in shape.  Stay away from fattening foods and you'll start shedding pounds over time. Fill up on salads and some protein (I've been sticking with chicken and fish mostly)  and your body will start burning off some of its fat over time.

You are not alone there. I just had my third baby and am totally not at the weight I was at before I got pregnant.

I am 5'3" and before I became pregnant with my third child I weighed 115 lbs. Now I am a little over 150 and it is killing me to lose this weight.

What I am finding that helps, especially with us busy mothers with little babies, is that going on youtube, you can find almost any exercise video that fits you. Mine is dancing (lol) and what I do is I have my kids exercise with me in the living room.

Also, I don't stress out over what I eat, I basically try to not eat as much and cut out certain foods from my diet such as rice (which is important to a lot of locals in Hawaii) and junk food.

Also, I feel you on your other half loving the fast food diet. hehe... mine is also the king of that. But what I do is pick out something simple for myself (even if it kills me to eat it again and again) like the chicken sandwich with no mayo (from mcd's) and for my kids I'd probably get the parfait and chicken sandwiches with no mayo for my kids also...

just thought this suggestion would help. I know that in the past I've gone overboard with the whole "diet" thing, but then I've messed up my metabolism a lot doing that so I'm just taking it slow.

It is also good that you go slow anyway because if you lose too much too fast, you have extra unneeded fat on your body that you will have to get rid of anyway. So...maintaining that healthy yet subtle eating habit is important, I think because you don't put your body through yet another shock from the last one it just went through with having your baby.

Hope this helps!
