1 1/2 years ago I weighed 240 and am also 5'3". I weigh 132 now and am a size 3. I was miserable! No matter what I did, I didn't lose significant amounts of weight. I went to my doctor and had a physical and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, an endocrine disorder the makes a person insulin resistant. That was the start of my weight loss journey.
I would encourage you to see your doctor and make sure there are no underlying issues that will help you lose it and keep it off.
The after that I used Ultra meal 360 meal replacement shakes, for 8 months I had 2 shakes, 2 high protein, low carb snacks, and 1 "lean and green" meal. The meal can have up to 8 oz. of any lean meat, and as much green veggies or dark lettuce as you want.
Once I lost about 70 pounds, I felt comfortable excercising. I started a couch to 5K app. It was very difficult, it took me 2X as long as it says.... but I did it. I think when I pushed myself to failure I would get so discouraged in myself. So my philosophy became as long as I do SOMETHING, it's better than nothing.
I have maintained my weight loss by making healthy choices daily, and endulging 1-2 times a week on 1 thing. Very rarely do I eat a whole meal that is bad.
Eventually it becomes a way of life. If I eat bad now, it makes me feel bad. That negative reinforcement definitely helps me along too. Good Luck!

Hi Gemini. I am not morbidly obese now, and I never have been. But, I was close.  At one time I weighed 240lbs. I was still gaining weight weekly and that depressed me, and then I would eat, again. Loosing weight isn't easy, and for those (myself included) who are addicted to food, it is much tougher. What has worked for me, consistently, is logging EVERYTHING you eat. Everything. It is a pain. It is time consuming. It is tedious. It is boring. But, if you are honest about what you are eating and how much you are eating, then it is easier to make necessary adjustments. It never occurred to me just how many calories or how much fat I was actually putting in my mouth. The key to logging what you eat is to be honest though. I never share my food log and I rarely talk about it. It's mine. The other thing I do with my food diary is if I have a day where I screw up and I eat something stupid or way too much, I also write down why.Why did I feel the need to do what I did. I do not accept "because I felt like it". There is always a reason. You may not want to face that reason, but it's there. Finally, I forced myself to exercise. At first not in the gym. For me, boredom was a main reason why I ate. So if I caught myself searching for some food, and it wasn't my scheduled time to eat, I FORCED myself to clean something. Anything at all. It could be sweeping, doing a load of clothes, doing dishes, whatever, it didn't matter. What did matter was that I became physically active and mentally active. I lost 60 lbs this way. I have now migrated to a gym and a pair of jeans. It is tough Gemini. There are days even now when I struggle. Just like trying to quit smoking or anything else that is a terrible habit.

Hi I am morbidly obese and have found that diets suck! I have lost 50 lb since augest by watching what i eat. If i want pizza one day instead if eating four slices i have one or two with a green salad with lemon no dressing so i feel full but did not eat a lot of calories. I also go on walks not power walks at first just walking for an hour outside get some sun and freash air it helps. What probably helped me lose the weight the most was loving my self every fat roll and chin lol this is who I am and I am trying to lose the weight because I need to for me. Take the stress out of weight lose and it just melts off.

I'm not morbidly obese, but I'm in the obese category... I can tell you, it's not easy to lose.. I'm not sure of your situation, but I have hypothyroidism and insulin resistance which makes it all that much harder..

My first question is whether or not you have either hypothyroidism or insulin resistance/type II diabetes.. if so, you and I might have journey off the beaten path in order to lose our weight...
