The best place to start is with the diet.... replace the fatty foods with fresh/frozen veggies. Most non starchy veggies have so few calories that they are considered "free", meaning you can eat all you want, without adding unwanted calories. Just don't load them down with cream or cheese sauces, etc.
Eat plenty of lean protein, either in the form of lean meats, chicken, fish, eggs, etc. Opt for low fat dairy, including milk, yogurt, cheese. Nuts and seeds are good options for snacks, along with fruit, cut up raw veggies, such as carrots, cauliflower, celery, etc.
Home exercises work just as well as joining a gym. If you aren't used to exercising, you might start with a daily brisk 30 minute walk and work your way up to other things. Yoga is excellent exercise. You can find a lot of yoga videos on YouTube that you can watch for free. If you can't get outside to walk, there are also "Walk" videos you can do on YouTube, as well. In fact, you can check out YouTube and find examples of just about any exercise you might like to try. Zumba is another good one. In addition, you should try adding in some weight training, which is what builds muscles and muscles burn fat. Exercises using hand weights are good; if you don't have hand weights and can't afford to buy them, try using 16.9 oz bottles of water, or canned fruits/veggies that weigh approximately a pound. Squats and lunges are really good for building/toning muscle in the legs and butt area.
Hi Janet, you need to maintain a calorie controlled diet, eat high protein (eggs, chicken, fish, meat) and low carbohydrates (potatoes, white rice, chips, cakes and sugars etc) eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink lots of water. Also green tea is a natural fat burner
Ensure you eat regular throughout the day and DO NOT skip meals. Lay off the sugar based food and conduct at least 30 minutes of exercise 3 to 5 times a week. As someone who has not conducted exercise before and not really ate healthy food you will find that you will lose weight fairly quickly. Good luck.
