Overweight and helpless!

I'm almost 24 and very overweight (5 feet 5 inches and 260 pounds). I have high blood pressure also and a few breathing problems (nothing too serious). I have tried everything, to shed the weight, but nothing works! Is there any way I can look into a medical insurance to lose weight?

You should get a consultation with a Bariatric surgeon.  Depending on what type of insurance you have, it should cover gastric bypass or lap band with a doctor's letter.  I know for a fact that certain insurance carriers only pay after you have been on a medically supervised weight loss program for 6 months and have been unsuccessful.  You have to be within certain weight parameters which you probably are.

Your weight is definitely contributing to your hypertension and respiratory problems.  Thank heavens it's not too serious yet.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm not even sure if most insurances, cover weight loss surgery and lipsosuction (particularly liposuction).

One of the major issues many people have with dieting is that even though they eat healthy foods, they eat too large portions, so they can't get anywhere.

Another problem a lot of people have is that they try to change everything all at once and it becomes unsustainable for the long term.  It's much easier to small changes and get used to each one before you make another.

How often are you going to the gym?  Are you doing weight training, as well as cardio?

Have you been tested for hypothyroidism or insulin resistance?  A few years ago, I gained a good amount of weight, so I joined Curves to help get it off.  I worked at it faithfully and only kept gaining.  After a few months, I was tested and it turned out that I had hypothyroidism.  I've been on thyroid replacement hormones, ever since and have recently been diagnosed with insulin resistance.  Insulin is known as the "fat storage hormone", because what food isn't used up with exercise, insulin shuttles it straight to fat cells.

I guess I should have been more specific with my question and what I meant by medical insurance to lose weight. I was referring to weight loss surgery and liposuction. But I have tried dieting and I have a gym membership with personal trainer, yet nothing is happening; I'm showing no progress.

I'm not sure how you think medical insurance will help you lose weight; that's something you have to work at.  We can help you, but you'll have to provide more information.

Your weight could be contributing to both your high blood pressure and breathing problems.

What kinds of things have you tried?  Can you give us an idea of a day's worth of food intake?  What about exercise?
