Weightloss buddies?

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would like some daily or weekly help with their diet/exercise in terms of being held responsible for what they've done (or haven't done) and being encouraged!

I enjoy these diet trackers/calorie counters but it is so easy to cheat and just not log in.

Also, would be interested in help with nutrition; cookin healthy meals and snacks

I live in the Salem MA area and go to the gym regularly as well as run outside so would also be willing to run and/or do walks with someone in the same area.

Thanks and best of luck!

Hi!

I have not tried any particular diets so I cannot comment on VLCDS.

Perhaps you could start your own question post about this on this forum, healthy living, or nutrition.

:-) Good luck!

Hi wasti!

I have been training for about a year just doing the bad thing of yo-yoing a bit. 500 calorie burn is my goal because I'll only be doing the gym 3-4 days a week and I'm not really focusing on caloric intake. I want to tone my body so I am good with building muscle. I am not doing a lot to where I would bulk up and am also doing cardio.

Thanks for the invite and way to go on losing 18lbs!! Have a happy and safe New Year!

hi there LaDonnaF!

just as a small question... do you regularly train? or just started like "yesterday"? because 400 kcal are actually pretty much, if not too much for an untrained body...

I started slimming down about 8 months ago (18 lbs down, 8 to go) and i almost did the big mistake of overdoing it at the beginning... I almost tored my knee ligaments because i just wanted to slim down fast.

I had a long way to get where i am right now and I know the way gets even "longer" if I want to keep my desired weight once i reach it.  it really is an endurance battle.

I swear of healthy food and climbing ( right now just once a week, but boy, does it work (and hurt too))

I do not recommend weight training if u plan on slimming down.  At least not at the beginnig.  Weight training transforms fat into muscle and, if u dont want to look like a bodybuilder, it would be wise not to do a lot of it.

but i am no specialist so i just write from my personal experiences.

Thanks ChitChat!!

Went to the gym again Wednesday night. I hit the weights pretty hard working mostly my triceps (hate that jiggly underside of my arm!) and my abs (sit ups with a 10 lb weight) then doing squats with a 10lb weight.

I then did 40 mins on the elliptical at a 10-12 resistance. Burned 400 on that and kept my heart rate between 165-175.

Feeling great! Wish I could be outside running. Will be investing in some cold weather running gear once I bounce back from Christmas spending.

Back to the gym yesterday!!

Burned 400 calories between the stair climber and weight training. My phone was pretty dead so I didn't put it in the tracker. Going again today and hoping to hit 500. Mild weather but rainy so no run outside.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I have to wonder if you've had your thyroid and blood sugar levels tested recently.  Weight gain, such as yours is often caused by hypothyroidism or insulin resistance.  I'd suggest that you get your TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tested, along with blood sugar levels to rule out medical issues.

Once that's done, MrsAK420 had some excellent suggestions for changing the way you eat, such as switching to brown rice instead of white, whole grain pasta, etc. In addition, switch to whole grain breads, low/no fat dairy, and eat plenty of vegetables, most of which are loaded with fiber, which takes longer for the body to break down, so keeps you feeling fuller longer.  Additionally, most veggies are considered "free", because of their low calorie content. Opt for fresh or frozen veggies, whenever possible, as the canned ones often have WAY too much sodium in them.

For snacking, try to keep carrot or celery sticks, low fat cheese, etc handy.

I'd like to invite both of you to participate in our Sunday weigh-in post.  Each Sunday, I post a thread, called "Sunday Weigh In (date)", in which I post events of my week and how my weight ended up from the previous week.  This is a way to keep myself accountable, and to give encouragement and try to help motivate members to stay on track with their weight loss.

I know it can be hard to avoid eating out all the time. I make everything myself, I won’t even touch canned soup. We started by swapping white rice for brown, white pasta to wholemeal. But it’s often the sauce or topping that can make a meal unhealthy. So changing from using cream to lite sour cream or plain yogurt is a good start also. I also practice the French way of eating, which is after every mouth full of food, you put your knife and fork down chew slowly and pause before picking up your knife and fork again. This makes you eat your meal slower and get full faster. It is also good to practice never getting full. Really you don’t need to eat until full every time you eat. You can train your brain to recognise when you have eaten enough to stop before you hit that point. I think snacking is properly the hardest I try not to snack but if I must I go for apples and carrots. You really can’t trust all those low fat sugar free foods, they really are full of crap and in the end it’s just marketing. I spend a lot of time surfing the net for recipes, and often just change bits and pieces to make it healthy, like using fresh tomatoes instead of buying pasta sauce, making sour cream based sauce instead of mayo on salads.
I think the main thing is to make food yourself, it’s more rewarding and you know exactly what you are eating and what’s in it.
My mum also swears but her water, she drinks at least 4 pump bottles a day, personality i swear by green tea.

Hi MrsAK!!!

Thank you so much :-). I dream of visiting New Zealand before I die so it's really cool you've replied to this!!

Could I ask what some of the meals where that you were cooking for your mom?! That's a large drop in size; congrats to her :-)

I am 5'1 and went back up to 154 lbs recently after having dropped to 140. I would like to get to 130 but eating is my biggest issue. I really have to cut out fast food and junk like sugary cereal.

I think it will help me to have to tell someone what I've eaten; heheh.
