Thanks, Barb, Sooo glad to have you with us!!! There is a little way to "jump start" your weight loss .. it is the same thing used to help us over a plateau. Eat 200 less calories than normal for Day 1 and Day 2, then eat 200 calories more than normal for Day 3. So, if I'm eating 1,400 calories a day, I will eat 1,200 for Days 1 and 2 and then 1,600 for Day 3. The first two days allows us a greater calorie deficit but sometimes our bodies will not let go of the weight because it can be protecting us and in its magnificent design working to keep the weight on and preserve life. On the 3rd day, the upswing of 400 calories signals our body that we are not starving and all is well and allows the weight to leave.
In addition, keep changing your exercise, mix it up so there is no routine as to what you are doing ... walk one day, aerobics the next, swim the next, bike the next, back to aerobics .. in mixing it up your body stays in a state of muscle confusion and the exercise is most efficient then.
Sorry, can't recommend any pills other than a good vitamin. Just stay the course, Barb and if you need any help figuring out the calories you need a day, just let me know. Do you journal your food?
Please let us know how you are doing .. and remember, there are normal weight fluctuations .. the proper movement downward will occur when we stay engaged and steady.
(((Hugs))) ... YOU CAN DO THIS Kiddo!!!
Have to run to work .. but will certainly get back to you when I get home. Take care and talk soon .. Ranae
Thanks - I'd love to join you. Right now, my challenge is figure out something that will jumpstart the weight loss, since diet and exercise don't seem to be getting it. My weight sometimes fluctuates 3-5 lbs/day (partially from fluid buildup), so about the time I think I've managed to drop a couple of pounds, I step on the scale to find that it all came back. I've looked at some of the weight loss pills and even tried hoodia, but it did nothing for me. I do know that some of the weight loss pills can cause rapid heart rate and other things, so could be dangerous. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks to all.
We'd love to have you join us as well .. ChitChatNIne and Red2008 are active and successful members and have great advice to share. Hope to see you there.
Welcome to the Weight Loss & Dieting Community. You have received much sage advice from a host of members sharing your same experiences.
Are there certain exercises you like or are partial to? Would suggest you try a variety of exercises and find several that you like. Perhaps you might consider starting your exercise tracker and then look down the list of all the possibilities. Pick one and try it and the next day you may want to pick something else. The key is in finding things you like to do and in variety. Would also suggest cardio, strength training and stretching.
Personally, I am partial to swimming, walking, bicycling, aerobics, dance workouts and pilates. If you need some help with some specific exercise instructions, we can help you there as well. Perhaps you might consider joining us in our challenges here and definitely think you would enjoy the Thyroid Disorders Community.
Best wishes .. and hope to hear from you soon ..

The best diet with hypothyroidism is just to reduce carbs and eat more fiber. As far as exercise, you have to find something you like. I love to walk. Each January, I come up with a goal of how many miles I want to walk This year, my goal was 600 miles and I already have reached that goal for the year. I keep track of my miles in my signature on yahoo, as I post to a couple of forums there. Now I'm also keeping track on the thyroid tracker on this site.
Hi everyone. Another hypothyroid here. I've been on synthroid since June '08 and really struggling to drop the 35 lbs I gained over the year it took to get diagnosed. I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency in July '07 and started on shots. Dr thought that was the end of the story, so while I was trying to convince them that I wasn't out of my mind, I gained all this weight. My job requires a lot of physical activity, plus I work out for at least 30 min/day with Wii Fit; trying to stay on good diet: fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc and still unable to lose an ounce.
Good to know that others have the same problem.
I'm with everyone on here, just stick to diet and excerise. I have Hasimoto's and am always fighting to lose weight. Glad to know I'm not alone. Good luck!
I am a thyroid sister also.
I am not even theraputic yet on my levothyroixine Last TSH 6.8
I have been just trying to eat balanced from all the food groups and do something, anything extra for a few minutes each day.
Lately it has been biking, but soon the weather will turn so I will be inside.
Dont be frustrated with the weight gain and loss. I could gain like 5 pounds over night. We just need to be determined to do this.
Stick around here, youll find lots of support and hugs.

Good ? ..... the thyroid complicates matter for some of us.
I find being on Synthroid has sluggished my metabolism even though I'm more hyper than ever in my life -- and the funny thing for me is that I have less of an appetite since being on Synthroid than when my thyroid made its own hormones LOL and I have to remind myself to eat sometimes!
