Thanks so much for your response. I did just get him to order me an upper GI and he got the results and called me to meet with him tomorrow to go over the results. I hope all is well.
Hi Rennie,
I don't have any personal experience with the Lap-Band, but the hospital where I used to work had a Bariatric Surgery Center that performed the procedure. They gave a brief inservice to the ER staff in case any patients came in with complaints following their lap-band. The symptoms you describe sound like the band is too tight (though you say it's been loosened) or that it is slipping out of position. Have they done any xrays or endoscopy to verify that it is still positioned properly? Some of the symptoms that can occur with band slippage or a too tight band are recurrent vomiting, coughing at night, heartburn, upper abdominal pain, wheezing and chest infections. The slippage and the recurrent vomiting can cause swelling that can partially or completely obstruct the stomach. It's important that you notify your doctor as soon as possible and discuss with him/her whether your band is properly positioned and contains the correct volume of fluid.
I am not familiar with the lapband procedure and I don't know of any of our members who have had it, so I don't know that we can help you.
Is it like acid reflux or something that you get? You should talk to your doctor about it.
