types of protein

I recently joined a gym and began changing my eating habits. I have decided to do smoothies for breakfast and have been told that I need protein in my smoothies to counteract the sugar from the fruit. I was wondering if I should just add greek yogurt or if I should purchase a protein powder. My goal is to lose weight so I don't want a powder that is for muscle building. Any suggestions?

I've used several different protein powders, but most of them taste horrible, which makes them hard to stay with.  The one I'm using now is called "Pure Protein", manufactured by Worldwide Sport Nutritional Supplements, Inc, Bayport, NY.
I got the vanilla cream flavor, then if I don't want to add extra flavorings, I don't have to.  They also have a plain and a chocolate.

Here's a recipe for Cream Sickle
2 scoops vanilla MR (meal replacement powder)
8 oz regular or low fat milk
2 Tbsp sugar/fat free jello pudding vanilla flavor
2 tsp orange extract
Ice cubes (optional)

Blend in blender

****************************************************
Creamy Chocolate Milk
2 scoops Chocolate MR
8 oz regular/low fat milk
2 Tbsp non fat chocolate pudding mix
Ice cubes (optional)

*****************************************************
Here's one I make on my own and it has no name:

1 scoop protein powder
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2-1 cup Frozen fruit of choice (I like strawberries, pineapple, mango or a blend of pineapple/mango)
1/2 cup milk
Ice cubes (optional)
Blend in blender until smooth and creamy.

*********************************************************************

I make variations of this, using whatever ingredients I have on hand.  I have a peanut butter powder (less calories and fat than regular peanut butter) that goes really good in smoothies.  I also like to use avocado, adding a bit of lime juice.

You can also just add a packet of whatever sugar/fat free jello that you like.  I do like to use Greek yogurt, with the milk, because it gives the smoothies a thicker smoother texture... makes me feel like I'm eating something really decadent.

You can also use flavored Greek yogurts, but watch the calorie count as some have a lot more sugar than the plain yogurt, and by the time you add milk and the protein powder you might have more calories than you bargained for.

I have more recipes, if you're interested, but they aren't much different from these.  Your imagination and tastebuds are the only limits to what you can put into a smoothie.

There are a lot of good protein powders on the market that are not meant for "muscle building", but protein is the building block for muscle and muscle burns fat.  Exercise also helps build muscle, but if you do the right ones, you won't "bulk up".

I often use, both, Greek yogurt and protein powder in my smoothies.  The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc.

You can also use sugar free jello and pudding to flavor your smoothies, so you won't have so much sugar from the fruit.  I have some really good recipes, if you're interested.
