late period, discharge and birth control pills

My period was 2 mths late. I had some spotting and saw my Gyno, he told me to start taking Yasmin when my period did start, because my previous periods were painful a week before they started and I had lower back pain. He also scrapped my cervix for lab work, which I found out later were for Gonorrhhea & Chlamydia tests. Which should be neg. My period finally started and I began the Yasmin, my period should be over, but now I have brown and red stringy discharge, Is this normal and/or will it go away? I've been on the pills for a little over a week, but I'm thinking of stopping them because of that and also because of muscle cramps and spasms and twitching in my legs.

I'm sorry to reply with a question, but what is Yasmin and what is it supposed to do?

Yasmin is a birth control pill with potassium add to it to shorten periods and reduce addominal cramping.

I had the spotting before I had the cervical scrapping, that's why he was taking a sample. The spotting was during the two months with out a period.

I also didn't have any spotting or pain after the exam. He said that there was no evidence of any spotting or my period starting while he was examing me. It was like going to the dentist with a toothache that disappears as soon as you sign in.
