8 days late but negative pregnancy test

Hi - my partner and I have been actively trying to conceive since the start of the year - within 5 days I conceived but sadly had an early miscarriage in February. I've had very regular 26 day cycles. After the miscarriage they fluctuated a little between 25 and 28 days but I am now 8 days late - I did another home test this morning (first urine) and it was negative again. After ovulation last cycle I had symptoms very similar to the pregnancy earlier this year and when my period didn't turn up I was excited. Very disappointed with negative test. Symptoms (other than swollen and tender breasts) have since all disappeared. Age is not on my side (I'm 41) but I am otherwise very healthy, not stressed and I am on no medication. What could be the reasons behind my delayed period? Please help I am very confused
