do you have a lot of it for many days?
i know my period usually lasts a grand total of 4-5 days and about 2 days of the brown discharge but the brown discharge is light. i just use a "light" tampon or a "light days pad". i personally dont know of any way to get rid of it as i would think its just part of the process. im happy when i see it get brownish because it means my period is ending!

I used to douche monthly but my doctor suggested that I stop b/c I would get a bacterial infection each month after douching.  That's why I'm looking for something other than douching..thanks for the input guys.

maybe someone can support this but i heard that douching is not good. our bodies have a way of cleansing itself naturally and using a douche can flush bacteria upwards causing infections?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. At the end of all my periods, it is light brown. Thats a sign of old blood. If you use tampons it gets backed up basicly. Mine always starts about one full day after I thought I've stopped. I will not use anything and then the light brown discharge begins. I hope this is helpful to you.

i have the same thing...and i've been going crazy trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with me....i can actually feel my womb close and the discharge is not only brownish but also smelly.  the doctor told me that i have a high bacteria count but because i don't have any lasting symptoms that he will not perscribe anything for me. last month i purchased a feminine wash called FRESH CONTROL INTIMATE CLEANSING GEL.....so far so good...i've just finished my period and so far so good.  the discharge still there but no smell so far.  I do believe that the discharge is the old or last bit of blood but the smell could have been the bacteria build up...try is out...

The brown discharge has always been apart of my cycle at ending but now that I am older I have noticed this light brown discharge to be of a certain substance close to a gel. I find it very strange. It also reminds me of when losing the mucus plug when in labor. Anyone ever experience this?

I have the same brown spotting - but it's BEFORE I get my period for several days.  Has anyone ever had it BEFORE their period???

Yes, I get it before and after. It's just old blood. At the beginning of the period it's probably because our uterus isn't in full menstrual contractions yet and it's taking a bit longer to reach the outside of our bodies, hence the brown old blood.

I have a brown discharge pretty much the entire 2 at the max 3 days. Do you think that is normal? I recently tried douching but after douching I had a very clammy discharge, with a small amount of odor. It itched  of course. I'm wondering if eve may have changed their solution. What do you think?

oh thank god! I thought I was dying. I'm so glad I found this site and that there are lots of other women who have brown discharge after a period. For 20 odd years I was irregular up to 6 months at a time. I would bleed like a stuck pig for 7 days and stop. Then when I hit 40 I started having periods so regular you could set the calendar by them. Now I am heavy the first three days and light for 4 and then brown infreq drainage up to a week after. And then tonight I saw pink gel like the mucus plug, so I quess this is menopause?

okay so my periods have been regular my whole life, i start almost on the same day every month and i stay on for 7 days(sucky huh!). well last month after i was off my period for about a week i started spotting brown blood adn then it stopped after a few days. well this month i had my period and a week later i started leaking bright red blood but now its like a brownish-clear discharge. I had freaked out and went to the ER and they did some std testing but said the bleedinng was okay and that a lot of woman have it, but not me! Im sure i dont have std's because i was pregnant and had my baby 6 months ago and i was clean of everything and my husband is faithful and im faithful to him. Plus the docs said they would call if i had something and they havent called. Tomorrow im going to set up an appointment because i feel achy (not crampy) down there and i feel kind of crappy everytime i urinate. Hence i thought maybe i was getting a bladder infection but i dont know if that would mess up my system and cause spotting or brown discharge...does anyone know? I also have a 6 year old and i still always had normal periods after him...i know something has to be wrong though cause i can just tell that somethings not right with my body. Ive been feeling not so good the last few days but i figured i caught something from all the sick people when i went to the ER cause there were soooo many, plus ive had this headache for like 4 days so im thinking my body has to be reacting to an infection or something. I dont know but if one more doctor tells me its just stress or hormones im totally not going to settle cause i know its something like an infection. Im gonna make them check me on everything lol

I totaly agree with you about the docs, some times I think they dont know the real facts because for the past yr my periods have been brown instead of red and for the past 4 months I have been spotting brown every other day and the docs always have the same answer for me after I ask what may be the problem, and that is, "well, it might be from stress or it can be from an infection". Well I know its not from an infection because I took a pap smear and also a pelvic exam and the results to both came back fine. I also know that its not from stress either because the problem started way B4 I became stessed. I'm stressed out now because of the issue and not being able to figure it out. Its stressing me out even more now cause my husband and I are trying to concieve and well no luck and I know that the problem has something to do with it. Does any one have the same problem with your periods being brown and or spotting every other day and or at the same time not being able to concieve? The brown periods that use to come every 25-28 days for 7 days was okay, I could dill with that but now its every other day and having to wear a pad every other day realy sucks. Does any one have any good advise or solutions that may help?

The "snotty" stuff...or..mucus is usually your natural sign of ovulation. It's very rare...but some women will actually ovulate (normally 2days)  right around there period, rather than the weeks between their period.

As far as doucheing goes...you have to be very careful not to tighten during the cleansing process.
You MUST read the directions..and you're better off with a natural ****** like vinegar.(I know...that smell is NOT appealing)

Hope this helps

I would not suggest doucheing because I work at the Drs office and she tell people never to do it.  What works for me is RePhresh and It is spelled just like that. I thought my body was going crazy until I found it. Helps with everything especially the odor with the brown discharge (which is old blood!)

However, it happened again 3 days later when i had sex for a second time, and now it has been happening for 2 days everytime you would normally have clear discharge that keeps the vagina healthy.
