Can bacterial vaginosis be itchy without a smell?

I recently went to the doctor about an itch/pain around my urethral opening (not UTI symptoms, I’ve had those before) and he did some swabs and came back and said I had clue cells, and diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis. He prescribed me antibiotics and everything was fine. Of course I was curious about BV and how to prevent it because the doctor said it was likely hormonally related and I didn’t think to ask how to prevent it, and i kept getting back that BV normally makes the vagina smell bad and have watery discharge, which I didn’t have. Is it possible the doctor misdiagnosed me, or can BV sometimes just come with itching an no weird smell or discharge?

If the doc said it was BV and gave you a prescription, and you took the pills and the problem went away, I'd tend to trust the doctor. I had it once and don't remember the foul smell often said to be its biggest symptom.
