Pregnancy & miscarriage

I had many symptoms of being pregnant, late period, cravings, sickness, fatigue etc. I always have similar and regular periods so this was strange for us. I had stomach pains and back pains that were incredibly painful and then I started to bleed, it was not a normal period in my eyes... It was heavy painful and a lot of lining was discharged... This worried me and I looked up the symptoms of a miscarriage. My boyfriend suggested I seek medical attention which was most definitely necessary. I did.. They took a urine sample and did a pregnancy test on it. They looked over all my symptoms and just told me my test was negative so I was fine... I am a young woman and how I saw it was that they didn't believe how I was feeling and may of thought I didn't understand but I'm very clued up on things and to me my body isn't right. So I got sent off just being told I have a negative pregnancy test.. I haven't got any answers as to what's actually wrong and why I felt like I did. So I wanted to know if you can still miscarry and give a negative reading on a pregnancy test? I understand the hormones are still present from an amount of time after but I feel like I'm still in the dark about what happened/what is wrong with me! I do hope someone can help!

Thanks!

Thank you.

So if because my bleeding has been so heavy it may have all gone before they tested? Will a blood test give me a more accurate answer then?

Hmm, I just re-read your post and saw that they did a urine test.  That's not as specific.  If you don't have an ob-gyn that you can go see, use requestatest.com and just go to a walk-in lab to have your blood drawn.  They can do a beta hcg test to give you an exact quantity, then you'll have a better idea exactly where you are on the pregnancy scale.

Your test probably came back negative because it was indeed a miscarriage.  I was about 6 weeks pregnant and got in to see a doc the day after I started bleeding lightly--they drew blood that afternoon (less than 24 hours since the bleeding started) and my hcg level was already down under 5, so they knew I wasn't pregnant anymore.
It's not a happy thing, but there is a silver lining--if your level is under 5 on its own, then you don't need a D&C to clear out your uterine lining, which is easier on your emotions, your wallet, and your body.  if you want to get pregnant again, my doc recommended waiting for one normal period before trying again.
Good luck.
