Cold symptoms during period

I have searched the interenet and can not find any answers to my problem.
I have recurrent cold symptoms during my period. I have noticed the symptoms for about a year but for the last six months they have happened every month around the third day of my period. Symptoms include aching joints, blocked nose and headaches as well as generally feeling awful. Periods are heavy and painful with clotting for about seven-nine days. Cold Symptoms usually last 5-7days. GP tried to treat heavy periods with Tranexamic acid but I reacted with severe mouth ulcers (half tongue size) Again these ulcers would appear around day three. Now resolved by stopping the meds but heavy periods have returned. The symptoms are to regular for coincidence, can anyone help?

I feel the same way, although sometimes I start getting sick before I've even started, and this time I was 4 days in when I started feeling achy, like with the flu, but generally not sickish. Today I have the sore throat, a slight cough and stuffiness. I have also had headaches and cramps have been worse this time around. And I have also felt dizzy and faint like. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I go to the OB next week, and will prob. be bringing this up as well to make sure it's just my body reacting and not something else since I feel tired most of the time. I take Tylenol Arthritis for cramping, bc it works pretty good for me and if you have any other pain like I do, not associated with your period, then it knocks that pain out too. I took an off brand sinus/allergy pill last night and it knocked me out. Def. don't take one of those if you have sinus problems unless you can get 8hrs of sleep. I was so groggy when I woke up this morning, I didn't want to get out of bed.

I too have struggled on and off for about 6 years with getting fevers and/or other flu like symptoms the day before into the first couple days of my period.  The thing that has helped me the most was prescribed by my acupuncturist - It is called Eight Flavor Rehmannia Teapills - the brand is Plum Flower.  They can be found at Whole Foods or other stores that sell Chinese herbs.  I don't know if they can help everyone - but I take them starting from ovulation until my period starts.  I take 5-7 twice a day.  They are inexpensive (less than $10) and come with 200 pills in the bottle.  When I take them I do not get flu-like symptoms.  Still get very bad cramps - but it's such a relief not to feel sick with fevers, chills and nausea!

So happy to know I am not alone. I am 30 years old and have been on the pill since I was 16 years due to hormonal problems and painful periods. I made the dicision to come off the pill because I felt I had been taking them for too long, and after being diagnosed with endometriosis my perscription became even higher. I hated the way I felt and decided I was done. These flu-like symptoms along with the sinusitus drives me crazy for the week before my period lasting up to day 2-3 of my period. Please tell me I don't need to go back on the pill to rectify this!

Boy do I understand...I have asthma too and I say exactly what you say...I can stand to get sick...runny nose, fever, pain, aches...whatever but nobody can live without air and that's what asthma feels like...like we aren't breathing. I'm in my 3rd crisis right now and I haven't had asthma for years but now with these cold/flu-period things, I've had it three times and always a few days before my period!! I WILL find an answer because I can't live like this!! It's horrible!! Take care!!
