Did it work? Morning After Pills

Hello, I've taken a Postinor Pill (Morning after pill) 19 hours after an incident with a broken condom. Unfortunately that was the earliest I could take it due to the timing of events (Easter Public holidays sure do make things difficult). He was still in me for a few moments before pulling out and discovering that it was leaking, so I'm sure some got in me.

For at least the next 15 minutes I tried to scrape it out with my fingers, hot water and soap, but now that I think about it, would that've made it worse? I was barely even thinking at that point, I just wanted it out.

How do I know if the Postinor pill has worked in successfully preventing pregnancy? Or do I have to wait until I have (or miss!) my menstrual cycle?

My pharmacist said I might bleed after taking the pill; is that a good sign or not? When is that supposed to happen exactly? Is it the day I take the pill, the day after or during the time I ovulate?

I normally have a 28 day cycle and the first day of my menstrual cycle was the 21st of March... Which means I'm supposed to ovulate from the 2nd to the 5th approximately (I think?). I took the pill Sunday early afternoon (31st March) so I know I'm cutting it close...

Is there any sort of reassurance I can gather at this point? I know it's only been a day since taking it but it really is nerve wracking if you're not prepared to raise a child yet.

So are there any early signs that could indicate the successful prevention? I'd appreciate any information, reassurance or support anyone could provide me.

I've taken this pill before some years ago for the same reason. Don't fret; I'm sure it will do what it's supposed to do also your cycle will definitely be thrown off a bit. I don't exactly remember when I got mine after taking the morning after pill but I'd say expect it soon. Being sick should not affect the pill as it works to stop the process of an egg being fertilized. Then basically tricks your body into the process of shedding the unfertilized egg and uterine wall aka your period

I started bleeding a little bit a couple of days ago (5th) and now it's getting heavier. Would this be the bit of bleeding I was told to expect? Or is this my period being 'tricked' into starting earlier?

And of course, this is all a good sign right?

Thank you both for the help and support! I've calmed down a lot more after reading your responses.

I haven't started bleeding yet, but I'll assume it'll occur soon if the pill is supposed to mess up the cycle.

I'm glad taking the other medications (Codrals and iBuprofen) won't affect it; I've been feeling pretty rotten recently and the headaches do hurt a bit sometimes.

Yet again, thank you for replying. It's extremely comforting to know that other people think it'd be okay. :)

I'll update if anything changes or goes wrong; I hope you could reassure me then too!

If you are sure you are not pregnant yes it is safe. You can test anytime you miss your period.

Just curious, is it safe to take Codrals (cold and flu tablets) or iBuprofen even though I've taken the Postinor pill a few days ago?

It should be safe right?

Thanks for replying Rizza14!

Yes, I've heard/read that if you take more than one Postinor -1 tablet per cycle, it could alter and change the times in which you bleed. What I'm curious about is when I should be expecting that change: would it be during the week I've taken the Postinor pill that I see any sort of bleeding, or is it during the week I'm expecting my normal period?

Would a pregnancy test be effective so soon though? I thought they responded to increased hormone levels produced only when implantation and development of the embryo occurs, then detects if there's a build up of that hormone. Wasn't that hormone only detectable after around 3 weeks of developement? I'm not too sure myself, I've never taken one before and I'm not an expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do now to see if it worked? I've had a headache and slight dizziness today; I have a cold, although I don't usually have those two symptoms when I'm sick. However I heard those two are side effects of the pill but that's the only sort of reassurance I've got at the moment. I've been like this ever since I posted earlier. :( That wouldn't affect my chances of it working, would it? Me being all sick and all.

Sorry for all the confused writing, if anything doesn't make sense please ask me to clarify.

Take a pregnancy test. Just be aware that the pill can mess up your cycle. I'm pretty positive that the pill worked.
