Excessive bleeding, i dont know what to do.

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help please as im really not sure what to do:(

Me and my partner was ttc from the begginning of last year. We had problems with my irregular periods and he also had trouble ejaculating during sex.. Because of the stress of everything, he left and i was left on my own unsure if our last attempt (1 week previously) would be successful or not. That was in july last year, we have since not gotten back together and rarely spoken, i tested with my doctor 2 weeks after and the test came back negative which was even more devestating as ive longed to be a mum for as long as i can remember :( since our breakup early august 2016 i have only had 2 periods (in 5 months - late august, and november) ... I have not been with anyone else and im not the type to have one night stands so i didnt see the point in going back on my birth control after my breakup, so my irregular periods arent in any way caused by birth control etc, But now.. I started my period just before christmas, and 3 weeks later i am STILL bleeding, with no sign of it stopping. I have never ever had a period this long, i have only ever been on my period 4-7 days. I am getting quite worried now and im not sure what to do. Despite it being a massive inconvenience bleeding for 3 weeks strait, it obviously isnt healthy. Ive read alot of articles that say excessive and badly clotted periods can indicate a misscarriage, but i couldnt of been pregnant because i had a period in august and november, and even tho i have read some women do still get bleeding through pregnancy If i was, i would of been roughly 25 weeks by now and im pretty sure i would know if i was pregnant by now. Im really unsettled by it and im really not sure what to do, has anyone been through the same type of thing? Or know what it could be? Thank you x

Hello.  hon, you need to go back to the doctor.  Birth control isn't the only thing that messes up our cycle . . . our own faulty hormone production can do it.  That you rarely had periods, now bleeding outside of normal (anything over 7 days is abnormal) is a definite sign that you have a hormonal imbalance going on.  this could happen just with how your endocrine system is working or your thyroid could be out of whack. So, see your doctor.  It would be unlikely to get pregnant with a hormonal issue or to keep a pregnancy going if you have a hormone imbalance (as in miscarriage is more likely).  So, you need to get this sorted out with your doctor.  I went through a hormonal imbalance in my 20's due to excess estrogen production and a slow thyroid.  It took a year and a half and mine balanced out without medical intervention . . . but many do need more than that.  So, see your doctor and let us know what they say.  good luck
