Heavy non-stop bleeding

Hi,I am writing in regards to my youngest sister, who is 17 yrs old.Several months ago she started having very heavy non-stop periods. After that went on for about a few weeks,my mother and her decided to put her on the Depo shot. This decision was made since my other sister and I had both used the shot and for us,our periods stopped completly before the next shot was due.Anyhow, this is not the case for my youngest sister. She is still having very heavy non-stop bleeding and this has been going on for months. She and my mother have brought this to their doctors attention, but he just says that this is a normal side effect.I have looked on the web and the only info I can find about heavy long term bleeding is for those who have decided to stop the Depo, but nothing relating to those who are currently on it.My sister has also lost 10 lbs since she started the Depo.I did find some forums of others who experienced this as well. But what about the blood loss? She's been bleeding for quite some time.Since months before the Depo.Any idea what this could be?

Well this started back in April I want to say the 3rd week in April I had just started a new job and was in training I was at work and felt funny and thought maybe it was my period since thats around the time I would get it.Well I was spotting but then It stopped and was very light until NOW,Now it seems to be way out of control HEAVY bleeding and sometimes HUGE clots the size of my fist and they are scaring me.Now in past history I had a ruptured cyst on my left ovary that I had surgery on  back in 2009.I do get slight pelvic pains when Im sleeping flat on my back what can be the cause of this?

I would definitely  get a referral to another doctor.  Bleeding for such a long period of time can be quite dangerous and she can become anemic etc.  Has she been seen by an  OB/GYN?  This would be the next move.
