How effective is the pull out method?

I just finished breastfeeding and haven't gotten my period yet.  My hubby insists that the pull out method is safe...I do not agree.  Anyway, I stopped breastfeeding about a month ago and have not gotten my period so I was wondering how effective the pull out method is...should I be worrying?

My husband and I have been using the pull-out-method for 10 years now. I got pregnant once two years ago though... I think we made a mistake by having sex again without him urinating (clearing out the previous "left-overs") after the second time.
We have 3 beautiful children, two of them were planned, and one - we were just preparing for ttc - was the result of us not taking the time to make sure we were "clear".
I only recommend the pull out method if your partner can surely control his ejaculation. It needs self control and experience! But if done right, it is effective.
