How long do Vulvodynia and the sores and symptoms persist?

I am concerned about how long vulvodynia symptoms persist. I have had symptoms for more than 3 months. I was tested for STD's and results were negative, including HSV2. I have an open sore that looks like a slit in the vestibular region, closer to the anus and sores that looked like paper cuts on the vulvar lips (outer labia). I was diagnosed with High Risk HPV 6 weeks ago and given Aldera Cream 3x a week. I do not have low risk HPV nor do I have genital warts. The cream made the symptoms worse! The sores came back and some bled. I stopped using the Aldera cream and my doctor is aware of this. The slit close to my anus scares me. It has been there for 12 days. IS IT TYPYCAL FOR A SORE TO LAST THAT LONG? I had a culture done to check for HSV2 of one sore when may symptoms began 3 months ago, but the sore didn't look like the rest of them, it came out negative and so did my blood test. How long does it take for HSV2 antibodies to show up in the blood? Can HSV2 cause vulvodynia?

I hear and feel your pain!!! What I can relate to is the vulvar pain.
I suffer from Vulvar Vestibulitis Syndrome (VVS) and have since March 2005. It SUCKS!!!  I had major tearing and pain. Have had a vestibulectomy and also perineoplasty. I'm not cured, but much better!!!!  I can't write much at the moment .... gotta run... but I'd love for you to check out my blog: nvvo.wordpress.com/julies_story and see if that helps you at all. That is my story and it's definitely ongoing!! I'm new to this website/community and hope to meet more women who are suffering from some form of this crazy nightmarish vulvovaginal chronic condition.

Well... I discontinued the Aldera cream and a few days later the cuts went away. The cut I was particularly concerned with was the one near my anus on the vestibule. It was the 1st one I noticed 3 months ago when all these symptoms began. Because i's in the same spot it scares me to think that it could be a herpetic lesion rather than just due to vulvadynia... even though vulvadynia will cause cuts and sores as well.
I have a feeling it's yeast. I get yeast infections 4-5 times a year now for the last 2 years... but the rx yeast medication that I had to insert really burned and did nothing to releave my symptoms... so we had to rule out STD.

My Gyno did another PAP today to see if I've cleared the High Risk HPV. He suggested that the HPV was the cause of my Vulvadynia symptoms and that the Aldera cream may have helped clear the HPV. He also concluded that the cuts I had were a side effect of the Aldera, but to get back in for a culture if I get any more cuts. Of course I know that's when I should have asked for another blood test but I chickened out.

My pain is subsiding now for the 1st time since Aug. It's been 3 months since my symptoms 1st began. The 1st Herpes blood test I took was 10 days after I had sex with my new partner and I was Neg for herpes 2. So it's time for a new test. And I am PETRIFIED. This experience has really changed a lot of who I am. I am on Lexapro for depression/anxiety and take Ambien most nights so I can sleep. My boyfriend swears he is herpes free! He is symptomless... and since all this started we have not had sex... To be honest I am surprised he didn't run for the hills with the 1st come to Jesus talk I had with him... but that's for another thread.

I'm just afraid I have a lot going on... Yeast that causes Vulvodynia... or herpes that causes Vulvodynia? I mean is that even possible... for herpes symptoms to last for months?

Vulvodynia is a nerve/muscle issue.  It's a diagnosis of exclusion.  After all organic methods of disease and irritation have been ruled out and the pain/burn/itch remains, then they call it vulvodynia.

Many times it's occurs after dealing with chronic infections. The infections clear up, but the pain remains.  They believe that in some women, the nerves in the region over react and form many new nerve endings. These nerves are hyper active and continualy send pain messages back to the brain. At the same time we are feeling the pain and discomfort, we tighten our pelvic muscles without knowing it, decreasing the blood supply (slowing healing), applying pressure to the peudenal nerve which causes more pain.

Aldara is a no-no.  Check out Dr. Glazers website. It has a lot of information about vulvodynia.

It isn't herpes so don't worry about that.  3months after exposure is plenty of time for antibodies to develop.  I assume you had a Herpes Select Blood Test and it was negative for type 2.  You may want to test for yeast.  That seems probable.

From what I understand vulvodynia is simply a term used when there is no diagnosis of ongoing vaginal pain.

Have you been tested for yeast? Yeast can cause the sores like you describe and it would also be made worse by the cream as you mentioned.
