I'm 16 and i have an irregular period and i need to fix it!

My period is so annoying.
I have no idea when to expect it, and when i have it, it is all good.
not too heavy, not too light, i dont leak, no cramps, nothing.
but i just never know when it is coming.
and everyone says "your young, it is okay"
but its not, im afraid to go to the pool, because of my fear of randomly starting again.
and my mom refuses to put me on birth control.
what can i do to regulate it, or is there another pill to take that isnt birth control?
thanks in advance!
