Is this a period, or just spotting?

Hello! Can anyone tell me the difference between a period and spotting? So basically, 2 nights ago there was a smal amount of blood in my underwear, and I assumed my period came back. (This has only been the 2nd time ever getting my period) after that one time, there has been no blood at all. Not in my urine, not when I wipe myself, and not on my pad. And just now(2 days later), when I wiped myself there was blood on the toilet paper. I'm really confused. Am I on my period and it's just being weird and irregular since its only my second time ever getting my period? Or is it just spotting and not a period at all? Thanks.

We don't all have textbook periods and that's normal. I'm very irregular so regardless what it's called just be prepared. Wear panty liners, have supplies in your purse. I used to keep extra panties just in case to. In high school I'd keep an extra parts of "gym" clothers in my locker just in case I was surprised. Sorry doesn't answer your question directly but hope it helps.
