Knee Pains, Pops, Or Creaks Anyone?

Hi, I'm 16 years old.

I've been struggling with knee pains since I was 13. It's always having a constant sharp ache to it when I walk, and it's starting to affect my hips too. It pops when I change direction, or move it the wrong way. It also creaks going up and down the stairs, or any inclination really.

I just want to know if there's any help for this. I've gone to orthopedics before and they just sent me to physical therapy. The therapy works for some time and then it goes back (I do keep up with the regimens, I am active in sport too)

I also have a long line (my mother's side) of psoriasis, and I heard that that could affect joints also, but never really went in depth with it. Does that have anything to do with it?

Any advice or help on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you all.

Just want to remind folks that we can't recommend medication here.  We aren't doctors.  This is best discussed with your parents and physician.  good luck

Psoriatic arthritis is certainly a possibility, unfortunately.

The treatment that might do you the most good is low-dose naltrexone.  Unfortunately your doctor may not want to prescribe it because they are just starting to study it for inflammatory autoimmune conditions.  But it would not have the side effects that prednisone would give you, so I would find out if you have psoriatic arthritis and ask for a trial of LDN.  Insurance won't cover it, it has to be mixed at a compounding pharmacy, but it's only about $40 a month.

Hi there.  Well, I don't have any advice for you --- but wonder about your weight.  Are you over weight?  Overall, it sounds like you've been to a doctor or two about this and they aren't finding anything wrong.  Sometimes we have to keep trying with doctors to find an answer.   And they would be good to ask about psoriasis having any part of the pain issue.  Do you feel you are developing arthritis?  And autoimmune disorder?  I would ask your doctor about these.  However, arthritis is unlikely.  Rheumatoid arthritis is one that a young person might get but what you describe doesn't really follow the pattern.  and the other type of arthritis is pretty rare in a young person.  You've had your cartilage and such checked?  Sounds like it.  I would not be concerned about the cracks.  I've always had that too without any pain or issue in my joints. But you've got pain and that is what you need answers for.

I would talk to your mom about again seeing a doctor and getting her (or your dad) on board for helping you.  they are your best source of getting help.  good luck
