This is my first period where I have been using the Diva cup and so far it has been a pretty good experience. I had trouble the first time taking it out because of the suction. I figured out to break the little seal first before trying to pull it out. I has not been messy at all for me. I followed the directions and made sure that the cup was pulled strait down and held upward. My finger and hands were soiled about the same amount as using a tampon. I usually leak on my heavy days with tampons and pads and have to run to the bathroom in the morning on heavy days. I have not had to do that (so far). Again i have only been using it for a couple days and it has been good. This has also been one of my most mild periods. I know there is a learning curve but so goes the same with tampons and pads. Also, personally I feel a lot cleaner and am amazed with learning about my body. I plan to continue to use my Diva cup.
PS I bought mine from Whole Foods. You can get if from any natural, organic food store.
ah i've been looking everywhere on the internet about cups. trying to find the best one for me. but everything that i have read so far sounds really good. can't wait to buy my own. the only messy part is learning. they say you can even practice when you don't have your period. the only trouble is breaking that seal! lol but there are a few good ways to do so that aren't hard at all. look on google by typing in menstrual cups or menstrual cup forums. i found that a lot of help. at lest try it out. :) good luck
I've been experimenting with Menstrual Cups for a couple of months now and the ones I've tried are DivaCup and Mooncup UK. I'm quite petite so I found the DivaCup to be a problem because of its length but for an average sized woman that probably wouldn't be an issue. I've used Mooncup UK for two periods and so far I like it. You have to remember that the learning curve is quite large but if you keep at it you will get the hang of it. I haven't found the cups to be any more messy than inserting or removing a tampon but it helps to be ok with the sight of blood and to be comfortable with your own body. Now that I've started down the menstrual cup path - I dont want to go back to tampons for various reasons, especially since I've learned that about a third of the moisture a tampon absorbs is your body's natural moisture that is supposed to be there. That can't be good. Check out the following sites for more honest info from women who don't represent the companies selling the cups:

Hope this helps!!
Many women love the Keeper/Diva Cup. I keep planning to try it, but haven't gotten around to it. I've used the Instead disposable cup and also found it quite messy to remove. Somehow I always manage to either spill it all over my hand and wrist, or pop it so that the fluid splashes on my clothes. I personally wouldn't trust it just wearing around because of the potential for just catastrophic leaks, lol, but it works fairly okay for less messy sex.
I *love* o. b. tampons. They are by far the best ever :-)
My friend tried using them before and hated it. Like the other poster said they are very very messy! And that is about all that I can say about that, I would not recommed them at all.
Realizing periods are not us girls cup of tea, using a tampon is the best option that is available because pads just make you feel like a nasty baby. Also just to mention if your period is a big problem getting onto birth control in most women has a tendency to stop your period all together. I have been on BC for 6 years now and I have not had one period the entire time.
I haven't tried them out, but I've read that they are very messy.
