Is there any reason for the doctor to insert fingers into vagina after exam is over and ask if I can feel it?

Yes, doctors do insert fingers into the vagina during the exam often after the metal speculum part of the exam.  That is standard. They then use the other hand and gently press on your abdomen usually too. They are feeling for abnormalities with your ovaries.  So, yes. I'd say this is normal. Most docs still have two people in the room, the doctor and a nurse during the exam.

My doctor did the abdominal exam first (what your talking about), then inserted the plastic tool and collected cells. She then removed the tool and inserted her fingers, wiggled them and asked if I felt that. She didn't give any explanation for this.
