Period after a hysterectomy

I underwent a laprascopic supracervical hysterectomy on 10/8/07, I am currently having a period? Is this normal? Can I expect this in the future?

The only thing that I know about this at all is that does not effect your sex life. I had the option of having that type of hysterectomy when I had mine the past July, but I chose a total. However that was one of the question about all of the procedures on all of the different types of surgery.

Thank you both for your input. I am curious though, will freezing your cervix deminish your sexual drive? That's my concern. What do you both think or what have you heard?

Tell me please! how was the procedure of freezing? how long it took? do you feel better? I am glad I was able to read your post to JoJo039 because you help me see that it is a good method what my doctor is recommending. Thank you! thank you!

The same thing was recommended to me, so this thursday I will do the Freezing. If you want, it is better to do the freezing. I have been hearing of people who got pregnant after partial hysterectomy in a falopian tube or outside the ovary because she was still ovulating and she had periods, so before something else happens I will run to the doctor to do the freezing, it is a five minute procedure and in the doctor's office and more now that laura1977 is telling that her freezing was a success. Good luck!

This is normal if you kept your cervix, because uterun cells can be left ontop of your cervix.  I had the same surgery done about a year ago.............. I was having small periods but three months ago my doc finally stopped them.  Ask your OBGYN if they will freeze your cervix, this hardly hurts, and it finally froze those uterun cells, and stopped my period............ haven't had one in 3 months.
