Very embarrassing question...

Hi all, this is very embarrassing for me to ask but for the past few days my vagina has been burning and sore even when I walk and now it's itchy aswell, like out of nowhere, I'm close to my period (4-6 days or so) so I don't know what it could be. I'm 17 years old and have never experienced this before. Could someone maybe tell me what it could be?

Hello.  You could have a yeast infection.  If you have a thickish discharge that is even lumpy and itching, those are symptoms of an overgrowth of yeast.  It can cause swelling and irritation as well.  Since you've never had one, it is always recommended to have your first yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor.  Then they treat with either a pill you take or over the counter meds you can buy yourself.  Yeast infections can happen all on their own or when we take antibiotics or something like that which kills good bacterial in vagina and allows yeast to build up.  good luck
