Period won't stop

I started my period last week. It went on for the normal 5 days, stopped for a day . Now it's back again I have had it for almost 3 weeks now. I am very tired . Has it got something to do with the blood loss.

Thank you for this post! I've been searching for months, but didn't realise to search in English, and I finally found this wonderful post! I mean, this condition is horrendous, but thank you so much for every single person who has shared their story here!

I just turned 33 years old, my unstoppable periods started few days prior to Christmas 2010 and have been off only couple of 1 day periods within this approx. 1.5years. I was under enormous amount of stress back then, in verge of a burnout (self- employed, year's biggest season), sleeping only 2-3 hours a day for most parts of Nov and Dec. I thought that was the reason, but I've learned how to control my stress symptoms now so I'm quite good in keeping my anxiety levels at bay. But as my periods are still going strong I'm on and off scared about my health and I hate doctors (due to not ever really being able to have any proper help when needed):(

I've been a vegetarian for 18 years which I also thought might have been a contributing factor (run out of certain nutrients?). I'm very strict about my diet and eat extremely healthily and in good proportion, but due work commitments very irregularly and have become morbidly obese (everyone in the family are super skinny):( I've been trying to eat every three hours since beginning of this year 2012 (nearly 5mnths now) and approx. 1000 calories a day, and trying to increase my protein intake (yet avoiding soy products which are high in Estrogen), I haven't lost any weight, nor has the diet had any effect on my periods:(

My periods have always been quite good, except since I turned 25 (?) they became nearly paralysingly painful (first 1-2 days), but after the Dec 2010 the pain has stopped completely. I still feel like I kinda have my "regular" periods amongst the constant bleeding, but have also developed these massive blood clots that have been very, very minor or unexisting before. I've had to call my parents couple of times 'cause I haven't been able to take my dogs out for a walk because the extensive bleeding. I've had moments when I've gone through large- sized tampons in every half an hour and was scared to go out because the heavy blood would literally pour down my legs.:( Just horrible, can't even exaggerate the worst days:(

I don't really want to have sex because of the bleeding, but sometimes if I feel like masturbating the bleeding gets very excessive within 12 hours. I feel like if my cervix (or uterus?) has weakened and my body can't tolerate the orgasm. Sorry probably sounds very strange, but I thought it might be worth to mention, same thing with sex obviously (even without orgasm).

I've been with my partner for 13 years, so no STD's, and haven't been on a pill since I was 21-22-ish. I feel quite ok, healthy-ish at the moment apart from the bleeding (and insecurities due obesity).

I'm trying to get in hold of some of that chastleberry. I take various vitamins/minerals regularly. l got my Haemoglobin checked, after over 10 year break, autumn 2011, it was towards the lower end, but within normal range.

When I was 18 I was hospitalised due "indeterminate" virus that caused my platelet count drop from healthy 450 to 18, which might have caused me to bleed to death in case of i.e a cut. Although I didn't have any period problems then, but in case it wasn't a virus as such and as suggested the Von Willebrand's disease might be something worth looking into. I'm Scandinavian where the disease was first discovered and is most commonly found (but still rare).

I wish to have my life back:(
Apologies for the long ramble, hope it helps someone even though no results have been found as of yet.:(

I've been thinking, and I just don't understand how on earth can a GP tell you that an abnormal period is normal and to leave it till it settles on its own. This "normal" assumption is base simply on many women having the same symptoms. But does it make it NORMAL??? Think ladies! When you have a flu, what do you do? Does your GP tells you that, oh well, this time of the year (winter) it's very common, leave it alone, it will settle anyway by its own. The GP doesn't say that, he/she'll give you a prescription drug to treat it!!!!!I Some of you might chose herbal treatment, but I don't believe any of you would just leave it alone.

JUST BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY COMMON, IT DOESN'T MAKE IT NORMAL!!!!! Like high blood sugar level, quite common, isn't it? But is it normal? Of course not! Same with everything, the symptoms are there to alert you that something is wrong!

So damn all the GPs who say that you should just wait and leave it alone. Because it's not life threatening? So what? flu is not life threatening either!
Abnormal period means that your body is most likely out of balance and you have to find a treatment for it. If you leave it, it will cause other problems, like tiredness, dizziness, you start worrying, and all these can lead to other problems.
So my advice ladies, if that thing has been over 2 weeks, definitely get yourself checked out, ask for a thorough blood test, ultrasounds, whatever you think is appropriate.

You deserve to have a normal life. And abnormal periods shouldn't be included in it!

Ok ladies, so here is what I've decided. I'm really fed up with it, and angry that I have no control over it. It's like a super bug or something I can't get rid of. I really really hate it!!!!!!

Since my period has no shown any sign to stop after two weeks, (2.5 weeks now) I got the prescription teblets the GP gave me. It's called PRIMOLUT N. read more about it: http://www.mydr.com.au/medicines/cmis/primolut-n-tablets
It's 3 tablets/ day for 10 days. Hopefully it will fix this pathetic nuisance period. I will keep you posted how it goes. Finger cross!!!!!!

I am 46. My periods used to be very regular. But for the last two years it has been mostly late, sometimes only a few days, sometimes a few weeks. This one now was two weeks late and DOESN'T WANT TO STOP! Now it's the 3rd week pretty much non stop. Sometimes it's very light, sometimes it's a bit heavier. I just had a few weeks ago a regular blood test and a pelvic ultrasound and all showed normal. I have been to the GP yesterday, she said it is most likely early signs of menopause. She said every women is different and all sorts of things can happen during this time. Though done another blood test for thyroid (I'm on thyroxine tablets) and hormones. She gave a prescription for some tablets, she said I could just wait it out till it ends, ...BUT WHEN??? or take these tablets for 10 days and it will fix it. I haven't decided yet what to do, I probably take the tablets next time I go shopping if this damn period doesn't go away.
I can't believe this, it's like my worst nightmare came true!
This forum really helps, I know at least I'm not alone with this awkward problem.
