Short Menstrual Cycles

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can help please...I've been in and out of gyneacologist for 3 years. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (so that would be lack of periods) and mild case of Endometriosis (so thats heavy and long periods)...Unlucky for me, according to the doctors, its not a combination which they see all the time.

Last year they put me on Depo for one shot (I was previously on depo for 3 years about, and when my last shot finished 3 years ago i had my bleed straight away). Anyway...had one shot in Feb 2010, and my bleed arrived in July 2010 (miscarriage - please dont ask how, but I was 10 - 12 weeks). Then nothing until Dec 2010...it doesnt finish there. Since then, It has been:
14th Dec 2010 - 4 days
25th Dec 2010 - 4 days
16th Jan 2011 - 4 days
8th Feb 2011 - 6 Days
22nd Feb 2011 - ongoing

Can someone please tell me if I have anything at all to worry about?
Smear tests are all ok...but they couldnt test me properly as they do with everyone else...as I am not regular.
Docs are not doing much...to get diagnosed with PCOS took 4 years, and to get diagnosed with Endo - I had to tell THEM what I thought I had. Right now...I dont know anything, and am very close to demanding hysterectomy as I am exhausted.

thanks, Tasha x

Hi fission,
This was the same result with three different Gyns.
Endo...yes, endometriosis. Surgery they can perform because of where it is - They can't get to it. They tried when they done laparoscopy.
Despite PCOS, my hormones are normal. LH is the only one that registers at "0".
They can't put me on a combined pill because of side effects - they tried and I am very emotional, temperamental, depressed, etc.
Last time they suggested Prostap I think it's called. Uses to treat prostate cancer in men, but was advised to think about it as it can bring on menapause (in 87% women period did nit come back. 42% they were diagnosed with an arthritis).
I just dont know what else I can suggest for them to check.

These people don't sound very competent. Maybe you should see another GYN who is willing to look at the big picture here. From what I understand of PCOS, the birth control should be regulating your period. You mentioned endo, (endometriosis, right?) are they treting you for that as well? Did you have to have surgery for it?

If it's what you want and you don't want to reproduce, some women find themselves so frustrated to where they do opt for a hysterectomy but you would be thrown into 'the change' immediately.
