Tailbone

Can your tailbone randomly bruise without falling on it? It is sore to sit and stand up. Could it be just a muscle? Been going on for a month now. I'm also a softball catcher so I'm thinking its something to do with muscle. No visible signs of anything. Please help! It just randomly showed up a month ago!

You've asked this question previously and I answered then.  Your doctor would do an exam of your lower back--  an external exam.  If necessary he might ask for x rays but in truth, typically for a tail bone injury they don't.  It could be just lower back pain.  Please refer back to your previous time asking this exact question.  good luck

How will they examine it?

I think it is related to a sports injury.  A physical therapist could probably straighten this out, but you need a referral.
