Another thing you may want to do before paying for a tubal reversal is to get fertility testing , no sense in paying for a tubal reversal if there are other problems that require IVF anyway. Getting pregnant drops to 3-4 percent by age 45. It's different for every woman but if you are going to need IVF anyway then you can skip the tubal reversal.
I would weigh the costs, tubal reversals don't always work and usually are not covered by insurance. After 35/40 yrs of age it might be more cost effective to go straight to IVF. Just something to consider especially after 40 where chances of natural pregnancy are significantly lower (avg 30% ) and that's not taking into account a tubal reversal, although it's not impossible! Good luck!
I had a tubal reversal in feb of 2012. I was 35. We conceived in the 2nd months of trying but then miscarried. We went on to have a very happy and healthy baby girl who is 16 months now. DH had a vasectomy this past winter and never did go back in to verify no swimmers so now we are expecting again. I am part of a TR Support group and we have many woman my age, and a very sweet woman whose scheduled for c/s tomorrow. She's either 40 or 41. Good luck.
Do your research on tr clinics, get a copy of your TL report so you know what type you had and how much of your tubes were removed. The tr doc will need this report tot determine if you are a good candidate for tr surgery. I opted for a smaller clinic who's doc does them 2 or 3 days a week and see regular Ob care vs the big tr clinics where that's the only surgery they perform. Personal preference.
Thank you for all your comments they have given me hope (:
I had a tubal reversal last September. I was 35 and now 36 and I am 26 weeks pregnant. I am on my second marriage, and this is my husband's first child.
I had a true change of heart. And I reevaluated my true selfishness. :)
Yes I had a reversal at 39 an they were only able to save 1 fallopian tube an I am now 34 weeks preg with a healthy little girl I am 40 now .
Just curious. Why did u get tubals if u wanted babies?
I am 36 and had my reversal march 2013 became pregnant next cycle and miscarried at 7 weeks. I am now 17 weeks 1 day pregnant with a healthy girl. And we are praying there be many more!!
I had a tubal reversal when I was 34. After 8 mos I got pregnant twice and both were ectopic. I ended up losing my right tube and was left with a left tube that is only 4.5cm long and my right ovary is dominant. Not a good combo. So we moved on to ivf as I was and am not getting any younger. Our purpose of the tubal reversal was so we could do it naturally and hopefully have more than 1. Unfortunately time is any new ways an issue. After 4 ivf cycles (1 frozen and 3 fresh) we are 15 weeks pregnant with a little boy and I am 37. For me i wish I had gone straight to ivf because I paid out of pocket for my reversal. Hindsight is always 20/20. I wish you the best on making your decision and on your journey.
I had a reversve tubal litigation in April 2014 on my 39th birthday. My operation looks like it worked I am currently 7 weeks pregnant!! Happy dance :)
