Vertigo and Pregnancy

I have been suffering, from what the doctors say Benign Positional Vertigo for about a week now.  They have not ruled out me being pregnant.  Just wondering if it is a possiblity.  Last period was 11/17.  Had intercourse PROTECTED 11/12-13.  I have taken 3 tests and all negative.  I felt lightheaded and nauseous with my last pregnancy but not this bad.  I can't drive, walk strait, and my speech is a little impaired. Wondering if vertigo is a sign of pregnancy??? I have to see a physical therapist this friday, just wondering if anyone else has had the same symptoms...

I had to see an audiologist to get my crytals back into place as well. this was before I was preggars.  I had the dizziness, feeling of falling when i laid down or rolled over in bed, couldnt walk straight and couldnt drive ( sharp turns, curves would make me dizzy)

they did the test first. make you lay on a table- then they keep changing your heads positions until they figure out where the breaking point is ( what makes you loose balance) they can tell this becuase when they hit it you get dizzy and your eyeballs rattle involuntarily, almost like a shaking)
then they use that point as a starting point and turn your body around in different directions to get those crystals back into place. the crystals almost act like a compass. it is hard to move them back into place since turning a compass doesnt change the position of the arrow inside.

it was scary to go through that and they didnt know why. i was 32 and had NO head injuries or previous illness.

My husband had a case of vertigo last year that laid him flat on his back. He finally saw an audiologist who put him through a specific course of turns and rolls on the table to get the floating "crystals" that had somehow become dislodged, back into place. The audiologist was able to determine, in the turning process, which ear was worse, and managed to get it all worked out. He has not had a bout of it since. I hope you find the source of your vertigo! God bless!

I've had that a couple of times and it turned out on both occasions to be inner-ear related.  Apparently, I had fluid behind my ears which was causing those distressful symptoms.  My doc gave me a prescription decongestant and Anti-vert (sp) and it cleared up pretty quick.  Every time I feel a "spell" coming on, I automatically take a Sudafed and I'm done.  I hope it turns out to be that easy for you.

Best of luck

Thanks!

The doctor made me feel unsure of myself.  I felt dizzy with my last but this time I can hardly function.  Must be an inner ear problem like I thought.

Benign positional vertigo usually is a result of conking your head -- the little calcifications in the inner ear get jarred loose and float around and cause the vertigo when your body is in certain positions.  I had it once when I stood up suddenly and hit my head hard on the underside of a shelf.  It was so nauseating and awful, but could not have been compared with the mild dizziness I got one day in early pregnancy.  That was not positional, and it was more like lightheaded than nauseous.  I don't think benign positional vertigo ever has anything to do with being pregs, though for some people dizziness does.
