I thought I was 8-9 weeks pregnant. Spotting after the 5th week and then Tuesday it became heavier; like a period. I had cramping in my lower abdomen (center) for a little over an hour. I passed some tissue that was bloody and grayish in color. I took it in with me to the ER that night and after ultrasounds and bloodwork, the doctor came up with 2 theories:
1. I had a miscarriage
2. I am not as far along as originally thought and it's too early to see anything in the uterus.
My hcg level was 856 that night; within the normal range of 4-6 weeks.
My cervix was closed.
I am going on Monday for a repeat blood test to see if the level increased or decreased over the last few days....
I still feel as pregnant as I did. Still bleeding and cramps here and there- nothing unbearable though.
I was only in my 1st trimester. I took a hpt on a Friday, just out of curiosity and it was positive. I went to my dr. that day to do a blood test and it was 431. I went back another 48 hours (Sunday) and it was 474. I was so scared because I had read that the levels are supposed to double and mine weren't. So my dr. said for me to come in another 48 hours (Tuesday) and we did another blood test (492) and a transvaginal u/s. The dr. said it could be etopic, but the u/s showed a sac in my uterus, but it was empty. My dr scheduled me for a D&C that Thursday saying it was a blighted ovum due to chromosomal imbalance and that's why my levels were not doubling. He said they would continue to rise, until my body miscarried naturally. Even though my dr said it was a fluke thing and probably wouldn't happen again...it put a scare in me and I'm just not ready to get my hopes up for nothing again. So, my husband and I are living life to the fullest right now and plan to ttc in about a year or so. In your case, it was slow rising to begin with, but now your doubling and that is a good sign. Congrats!
Where the egg is fertilized and goes to the uterus to grow, but nothing forms or stops forming at an early stage. Apparently, it's very common, but I had never heard of it until I was diagnosed. It's a fluke thing/chromosomal inbalance. Waiting for a baby and then finding out we weren't actually going to have one, took it's toll on me. So, we are taking our time to TTC again.
O wow were your level doubling while this was happening? And how far were you supposed to be when you find out? I got an US last week but they said with my levels so low that they can not see my baby yet
I bled in early pregnancy with my last too.. and at times it got really heavy. A nurse and a bunch of boardsl like this online suggested low progesterone and of course my OB refused to even test. My hcg levels were doubling though and I carried to term.
good luck!! Maybe can you ask for an ultrasound??
I agree - ask for an ultrasound - it's better to know than to wonder and also your levels aren't really doubling I've noticed. Yes they are rising but they do not look like they have doubled at any point. If you are still pg than perhaps you do need a progesterone supplement to help support the growth of the baby, but if it is a blighted ovum as the other posted said than this won't help and eventually you will miscarry. However, because we don't know for sure I reakon you'd be better off getting an ultrasound to see what's going on! Best of luck to you and bub.
I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum. My hcg levels continued to rise, but never doubled. Doubling is a good sign. Congratulations!
