About a month ago my dermatologist put me on Bactrim for acne. The Bactrim worked great and my face has cleared up amazingly, but, about two weeks ago, I started having symptoms of what I thought was a vaginal yeast infection. I have never had a yeast infection before, but I understand they are common with antibiotics. My primary symptoms were a burning irritation of the vagina and increased frequency of urination. I called my dermatologist and he prescribed 150mg Fluconizole. I took it later that morning. A couple days later I still wasn't noticing much, if any, symptom improvement, so I took a second dose and stopped taking Bactrim. A couple days later, still nothing, so I went to an urgent care clinic to get checked out. The doctor did a physical exam (examined vagina, but no tests or cultures). He said he saw some dried discharge typical of a yeast infection along the vaginal wall (I have yet to see any discharge myself). He thought that the Fluconizole didn't work because I was still on Bactrim at the time of the second dose and that now that I was no longer on it, a third dose of Fluconizole should do the trick. A couple days later I still wasn't feeling better, so I made an appointment with my family practictioner. This was last Thursday. She did a Pap smear and a swab which she examined under a microscope. She said that there was no yeast and no good bacteria, only bad bacteria. She prescribed a vaginal gel, Metronidazole, for the BV. After one use of the BV I constantly felt like I had to pee no matter if I went to the bathroom or not. I stopped using the Metronidazole. The next day, Friday, I still had somewhat frequent urination, but not like the side effects of the Metronidazole. I couldn't get a hold of my family practitioner, so I tried a daily boric acid suppository for the BV starting Friday night. The following day, Saturday, I had symptoms of a UTI. Mainly frequent urination and irritated bladder. Since I had leftover Bactrim, I started taking that Saturday evening. I called my family practitioner as soon as possible (which was on Monday since the clinic is closed on weekends and she doesn't work on Fridays). She wanted to see me that day, yesterday, and took a urine sample. She said that my urine tested clean -- no evidence of a UTI. She prescribed Phenazopyridine for the frequent urination. I took the Phenazopyridine last night and it didn't seem to help my frequent urination much at all. It did, however, turn my pee orange and give me stomach cramps. I got only about 2 hours of sleep last night, because the frequent urination has developed into a constant uncomfortable feeling of having to pee again. I do feel like there is some pressure on my bladder, but I definitely think my urethra is irritated. Additionally, as of this morning, my vagina, clitoris, etc, are inflamed, red, and swollen. I also have some cream colored discharge around my clitoris. Is everything just super irritated down there from the BV, yeast infection, boric acid, and Metronidazole? Like urethritis? Or is all this the BV worstening now that I'm no longer on any medication for it?
