I have had my periods since I was ten (im 21) and they've almost always been associated with pain. i've been prescribed painkillers (mefenamic acid) by my gynac which makes it bearable although i cant exactly go on with my daily routines, i just pretty much sit at home n move about very little. over the years i've gone through 4 or 5 different painkillers and by now they dont work that well even after stepping up the dose to 500mg. it reduces the pain for a couple of hours then the pain is back, and i cant take another tablet so soon after either.
the only thing that has worked so far is the diclofenac suppositories i was prescribed once when i was in Italy and had really bad cramps. it works like a charm and is more reliable than anything i've taken so far. but my doctor here in India wont prescribe that for me, saying the other regular mefenamic acid tablets are enough, even though i tell her they dont give me much relief. i was even prescribed the same tablets once when i had bad cramps n vomiting and had to go to the hospital. i took them as i was told but nothing happened, until finally i took a diclofenac i had left n that did the trick.
Is diclofenac too strong to take or something? Or should my period cramps not be so bad that it doesnt respond to regular painkillers? and is it really possible for painkillers to stop being that effective over the years if you take them every period?
