Without any ovaries, it cannot be for birth control. Possibly it is to make for lighter periods, but again, with no ovaries one should stop having periods. Maybe the doctor wants to be sure while all the hormones are finishing up, I don't know. Why not ask the doc?
Thanks for responding. I did ask my dr. and she said that it would lighten up my period, but I'm thinking like you that my period should stop. The dr. stated that I would continue to have a periods. She is a new dr., maybe I should do my own research before the surgery.
As Anniebrooke said, without ovaries you will be in surgical menopause. I'd question the doc furthur about exactly why you would have an IUD.
Thanks for responding. Maybe because my cervix and uterus is still attached it will cause me to still have a periods. I also suffer from fibriod tumors occuring. Right now I have a few that she stated was small, not to worry. I heard horrible stories about the IUD, I'm scared to have the surgery going in blind-sided. I do ask questions about the surgery, but dr. sometimes make thing sound so simple.
Thanks again,
