i also have a constipation problem as well. it *****. i know this may sound weird, but i have found one thing to work for sure. i eat salads, at least one a day, n for sure i will go. im not sure about while u have a fecal impaction, but i do know from personal experience of being constipated for most of my life, literally, if i were to wait it out before my body lets me move a bowel movement, it wud take me anywhere from seven to fifteen days of not going, n then i have a huge colon explosion. so my body has actually become use to all sorts of laxatives, and those no longer work for me. but my mother did have a fecal impaction, the doctor told her it was the size of a small loaf of bread, and he told her to drink a whole bottle of milk of magnesia, n she certainly did, she passed it, but it was slightly painful, but she got it out. she kept going to the bathroom too for three days, but after that she continued a fiber diet, and was fine after that. she originally got impacted from having a surgery done where they removed one of her kidneys n spline n lymphnodes, n two tumors, and she said the discomfort was worth it bequse she finally passed it. i wud try that and see if it works. are you not passing anything? sometimes when your impacted u are still able to pass some of the fluids and diarrehea, it makes it way around the impaction. if that all doesnt work, then i agree, you need to go to the hospital, they will remove it for you, they will find a way. they are more equipped then your doctors office is for sure. good luck with all of it. hope you feel better asap.

It's a crazy world...we get so little exercise, eat low-fiber diets, and oversleep...all of which contributes to fecal impactions.  If you do not have latex gloves, try a smooth plastic bag for digital removal.  Drink an oral laxative, and most of all try to wait it out for as long as you can. If you do not have any relief within 2-3 hours after the laxative...please go take a brisk walk around your local Walmart or 24-hour Kroger...and let the magic begin.  The only way an impaction will be released without digital removal, is probably by getting in a very public situation, and in situations where you are sure to be easily embarrassed...this usually causes stomach problems to occur. They never occur in the comfort of our own homes when we are close to a toliet....so try it.  If all else fails...call a doctor to remove it or get a pair of ice tongs and a friend who can keep a secret.  Good luck....to all my fecal impacted readers...and God Bless.

I wouldn't try anything else on your own.  I would call the doc pronto.  Impaction can be a very painful thing, and the longer you go without the proper treatment, the worse it gets.
Call the doc.

I had this problem sometimes and what helped me was a liquid that you can buy at CVS, Walgreeens, and even Walmart. I don't know the full name it is ? of Magnesium, Magnesia or Magnesium Sulfate. It is not milk of magnesium. It comes in a little bottle that is with a clear green or red liquid. Your choice. It comes in a 10 OZ bottle. You drink the whole thing at once and it works in 2 to 6 hours. For me 2 hours. Don't go anywhere once you drink it because it works alllll day long and sometimes into the next morning. It is a quick relief and you don't have to wait for the pill laxatives or even exlax to kick in whick does nothing or me. Good luck.

When I worked in a nursing home, the fleet was the next to the last option, first we tried benefiber/metamucil, then milk of magnesia, then rectal suppositories, then fleet enema, if that didn't work we had to do a digital impaction removal. My guess if the fleet didn't work, the doc is going to have to look at a more aggressive approach to dislodge the impaction.

You might try suppositories.  That helped me when I first got pregnant and constipation was a problem.  They loosened me right up.  But, go see your doc first and tell them the enema didn't work to get their opinion.

I also worked in a nursing facility for over 25 yrs. If you took an x-ray and it showed an impaction and the fleets did not work, you definately need to call your dr ASAP.By now you must be in alot of misery. My teenage grandson has went through this twice and when all else failed he went to the ER and they had to manually remove the feces to give him relief. When your suffering and can't go you don't care how you get it out as long as you do,to get that relief because it can become deadly or life threatening ,it almost was in my grandsons case. Then after this I'd talk to my dr about possibly taking a stool softener if you are taking meds that cause this problems,if it's not from meds it could be from the types of foods you eat, maybe not enough fiber or liguids.Your dr can help sort that out.But getting relief is your main goal at this point.

You probably need to take an oral laxative Correctal is very mild and it works.  You need to loosen the bowels. I'm sure this is what your doctor will tell you. Good luck

You need to call your doctor and tell him the Fleet isn't working.  He will have the best idea for you.  It's hard for anyone on the internet like this to offer advice beyond Fleet.

If you tried the fleet enema twice to no avail, you need to get back into your doctor now. They need to knwo the fleet didn't work and find another solution before this gets any worse.
