muscle spasms under breast in ribs

I have muscle spasm in or around the ribs on both sides (in the front under the breast and sometimes in the back at the same horizontal position), it feels like a ball rolling, in that it switches sides. It occurs even at night during sleep, painful enough to wake me.  I only know that when I relax and stretch (the side where the knot is) using several positions I have to wait till it goes away, in many cases to have it return in other places described above. What does it mean, how do I treat it.  I have high blood pressure and the meds deplete my potassium so I take a prescription supplement for that.  What should I be asking my doctor.

Do any of you have bladder issues? I looked at the female anatomy because I too have this and where it looks like it is coming from on me is right up under the rib cage on both sides where the bladder hangs from two different things. I can't remember what they are called. I am going to get my bladder checked and will ask my dr. Would make sense that since it's dropped it would be pulling on those two thingies.. hmmmm  .. I will post later after my findings.

Try these home remedies for cramps, maybe one of them will work for you.
A teaspoon of mustard works like a charm for me.
Tonic Water works for some people(because of the quinine)
A teaspoon of baking soda in a small glass of water is another.
Pedeolite (like for babies might help you.
Drink a little pickle juice, it may give you some relief.

I hope these help some of you!

Wow!!! I am so excited to find this website!!! I have been having this same thing happen for a couple years and my doctor is at a loss. I have always described it as a loose rib with a cramp like leg cramps.. I have had the cramps wake me up in the middle of the nite and have found if I drink a glass of milk or eat spinach that it helps them go away more quickly which seems to me a lack of Potassium. I too have high blood pressure and was taking triglyceride meds but had to come off of them as it made these spasisms go crazy!
Out of all to post I have read so far I have not seen any posts that say that someone knows what is causing this.  Any ideas?
Thanks!

Wow I thought I was the only one that this was going on with. I had my right kidney removed due to cancer in Feb and they also found a spot on my liver so I thought that was the problem because it started on the right side. I ended up in the ER because the pain was excrutiating. Now it is also on the left side. My Doc said that I might have pulled the rib muscles picking up my grandchildren, but the pain goes up and down my back with little tingles. NO IDEA, just wish that I was back to normal because I cant pick anything up, it aggravates the condition. I am not a pill taker and cannot take anti inflammatories because of having only one kidney. I guess I have to suffer. I am 54 and on blood pressure and cholesterol meds.

I too have been experiencing the same pain spasms in my right rib cage, under my breast. I have been feeling this pain for the last 5 months.  I'm 25, at normal weight for my height and have never been pregnant (though I noticed some of you have started to feel this pain after pregnancy). In the last 2 months I've started to feel unexplained dizziness/feeling faint at all hours of the day. It doesn't matter if I'm actively working or being sedentary at home, I get these "dizzy" attacks. Has anyone felt this? I don't believe I have high blood pressure (though I need to check with my doctor). Usually I don't eat many foods with added salt, or many animal or dairy although this past month I have been eating a lot more fast food and have noticed the pain increase. Has anyone else made changes in their diet and seen any improvement or negative effects?
