Actually, "ovulation" is the term for the moment the egg pops out of the ovary, ready to be fertilized. So technically ovulation itself is just a momentary thing. The times referred to have to do with the lifespan of the egg if it is not fertilized. Yes, it's short, nobody gives an exact figure but the research says it's good for 24 hours or so; some books say 24 to 36 hours and some say 24 to 48 hours. The counterbalancing factor is the life of the sperm, which is longer, supposedly up to 5 days in perfect conditions. (Plus the fact that about a million sperm are produced in each ejaculation.) So in theory if you have sex 4 days before ovulation, and again 2 days before, and again on the day, and maybe one or two days after that for good measure, you should have a massive crowd of waiting spermies all ready for the egg.
All the days that are highlighted you should be having sex and on that one day that is the darkest for sure that day. That is what i get from that site. I used that site for tracking my ovulation because I was ovulating to long. But i find that calendar very accurate
I agree, best to have sex in the days leading up to and including O day. I got pregnant both times having sex every other day during the week of O.
Sperm lives up to 72 hours so it is important to have intercourse right before your ovualtion day and right after as well. That way there are some sperm to meet the egg when it is finally released.
thanks, i know it was a really lame question but i got a bit confused, god, one day out of like 31 is your only chance, life isnt fair! i realise that women are most fertile on the day of ovulation and not so much the few days around them. Damn, will have to keep trying!
You are fertile for about 4 days each month and you ovulate on ONE day. The egg is viable for about 12 hours and then it starts to disenegrate.
