Relying on withdrawal is a good way to get pregnant.  In addition to hormonal contraception (the pill) and condom, the IUD is worth consideration. It's the most commonly used contraceptive method worldwide and greatly under-used in the US.  Infection, once a major concern, is not a frequent complication with modern IUDs.

The old joke is:
What do you call a couple practicing the withdrawal method?

PARENTS.

Withdrawal isn't a very effective means of birthcontrol. Condoms paired with a spermacidal lubricant can be quite effective. I personally don't have any experience with pills. My methods have either been condoms/spermacide, depo-provera, or the Mirena IUD.

Definitely put a call into your doctor or planned parenthood, they can help you decide what method is the best.

As far as regular lubes go, we like Aqualube, sold at Rite-Aid. Astroglide is okay, not a fan of KY, avoid any "prolonging" or ones that claim to heat up, they can cause some problems.

Good luck!

I use the nuvaring & I love it.  You insert it into ur vagina for 3 weeks, remove it for 1 week then insert another..  I have no side effects like I did w/the pill.  I would def recommend trying it.  They also have a coupon on nuvaring.com for a free trial ring.  We use KY warming lube but every couple is different when it comes to lubes!

Thank you so much for your advices, which condom will be the best, i tried many but everytihing got teared up, so thats why only we started following this withdrawal and i usually wash out with water after having sex,so that the sperms will die as sooon as water gets contact with that. This has helped me lot for this 6 months i a m not pregnant.but when i saw the adds abt nuva rings i wanted to know more about that.Any way i will try aqua glide.

You can visit the nuva ring website, www.nuvaring.com, and read about the ring.  They explain it very well and have some illustrations.  I went there a couple months ago to read about it because if I ever go back on birth control I want to try it.  My friend uses it (this is only her second month) but so far she likes it a lot.

Oh I forgot to add about the lubricant.  I tried KY before and it works pretty good as long as you don't get the one that is supposed to heat up.  It made me and my boyfriend burn.  I would recommend something water based, I like astroglide.  You might have to try a few before you find one that you like.

I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about with the patch test.  Do you mean the birth control patch??  There are many methods to prevent pregnancy and a dr. can discuss which one is best for you and sometimes you have to try a few before you find out which one works best for your body.  I tried pills, then patch for 2yrs then the ring.  I would recommend the nuvaring over any of them.  Now with the withdrawl method, I wouldn't recommend that because there can be precum and its not always reliable that he will get it out.  But good luck with finding which one works best for you!!
