period and pregancy after iud removal

I had my mirena iud removed on the 18th haven't had a period..My husband and I had sex on the 16 and on the 19 afterward.. I spotted on the 18 and the 19.. on the 10 11 and 12 i also spotted. While I had the mirena I never really had a period, just spotted and had cramps every now and then.. I have been reading that most people start a period right away.. I am ttc and want to know do i have or need to wait until i have my first cycle and when could that be?? could i already be pregnant and not know. And since i never had a real period while i had my iud when should i take a hpt... or i have a dr appt on the 15th of jan would they be able to test me then and have an accurate answer??

I had IUD marena for literally 5 yrs and i removed it on aug. 2008. Since then, i've been getting irregular periods. While i had the iud, i never had regular periods either.. some spotting from time to time. between jan 2009 and april 04th, i didn't even get a period! so doc prescribed me the provera in mid march and i got my first period of 2009 on april 4th. in may, without the provera my period started on the 7th. we'll see in june. it is slowly becoming regular i think even though i still dont know my exact cycle.

where im getting at is, it takes a while for alot of women to get the cycles back on track. we've been ttc since aug. 2008 and now its May 2009! so good luck with all those ttc =)

I was in the same boat as you. Had the Mirena IUD with no periods, heck I never even spotted. I had mine removed on Nov 11 and although spotted a few times over the next week I did end up getting a period on Dec 1 that was heavy and lasted 5 days. On average after it is removed you get a period in 4-6 weeks.

They do recommend having a period before ttc and there is no uterine lining built up to support a pregnancy.
