rectocele repair

I had rectocele surgery 2 weeks ago.   I have to take laxatives because 2 drs told me before when I had it to never get constipated.   So guess you could say I'm not able to get off of them.  I take 3 stool softeners, drink fiber and take a natural vegetable laxative.    The dr said to continue on like I have been.  I know I haven't given enough time to heal and I sometimes take a suppository to go which she said to do.
How long does it take for the sutures to dissolve normally?  I live alone and have chores I have to do.  Laundry and groceries.  I'm very cautious not to lift much at a time and get help when I can.  I do believe the surgery went well and I haven't had much pain.  I didn't take the pain killers.   Just the soreness when I sit in a certain position.  Please anyone that can tell me how long it took to heal.   Of course I'm 65 years old but in great shape and no health problems to speak of.  I realize 2 weeks is not long enough.  Has anyone else had to use suppositories to get started.  I'm scared of getting constipated.  After I heal I'm going to try my very best to get off laxatives and only take stool softeners and get plenty of fiber and water.

Hi there, I'm wondering how you are doing.   You had your rectocele surgery a few days before I had mine.    I'm doing okay I guess.   Still having the bowel problem but use the stool softeners, fruit, Metaqmucil plus laxative when necessary.   Even the day after a good movement I always feel like I have to go and a tightness in the area.

Never in my life did  think I would be on the internet discussing my bowel movements and rectum.  lol    I have to laugh sometimes just to keep from crying.   I'm disappointed in my dr with her follow-up with me so I just work my way through it.  I do not miss that bulge and am still glad I had the surgery.  My surgery was Oct. 14th.

Please let me know how you are and if it is getting easier by now.  I really appreciate your replies you sent.   Thanks again and hope you are doing well.

I am four weeks post-op for rectocele repair and my bowels are still not "normal". It may take months to get back to "normal'. I always find that my mind has one healing timetable which is often at odds with the healing time schedule my body is on!
You sound right on track to me.

Take care.
Pomponette.

I was on the site that is totally against any prolapse repair and have to say I don't agree with it.  I tried the exercises and all.  Spent money on a book and products.and didn't accomplish anything but misery.  So I'm very happy I had the surgery.  This site gives me more encouragement and things that have happened to some but not severe and I'm very pleased with it and at no cost.  It's good to hear different opinions.   I'm vey glad I decided to go ahead and have the surgery.  I had a very good surgeon.
