severe cramping with an iud

I have the mirena iud and for the past couple weeks I will get severe cramping. The first time it lasted a whole day and if I would laugh or stand up and would get worse. Now it only comes on about once every few days and lasts an hour or less. I have tried having a bowel movement when it happens but the pain in my abdomen is so sharp it makes me scream. I feel like it is coming from my ovaries. It usually starts on one side and then progresses to the other side. And is sometimes accompanied by neck and back pain. Could this be an ectopic pregnancy or am I possibly getting myself all workled up over gas?

Just in case anyone is curious- I went to the dr today and after doing a lot of tests- pregnancy, std, and using a vaginal and regular ultrasound- they found a lot of fluid on my right side and sent me to the ER. There I got a ct scan and they told me it was a ruptured ovarian cyst. Sent me home with pain meds. Luckily these things started working cause I had been in so much pain for almost 20 hours!

You should see your health care provider, just to be safe. It could be hormonal (ovarian cysts maybe?), the IUD could have moved...it could be a few things, your health care provider cna do an exam and tests if needed.
