to douche or not to douche

I was wondering what is all the buzz about not douching, I dont think ive been to a womans house yet who dosent have a douche tucked away some where and yet I keep hearing about how it not good for our bodies. What i wanna know is if they are not good for us than what is the right way to clean out our private area. I wanna know cause i dont wanna cause any damage to myself in the long run. Any suggestions!!!!

I strongly agree w/the above poster.  You never need to clean out the inside of the vagina.  Discharge does that for you.  Otherwise, mild soap and water externally only.

The vagina is a self cleaning organ.  All you need to do is use warm water and your fingers to clean the outside tissue.  Douching can lead to pushing bacteria into your uterus causing pelvic inflammatory disease or infections, both of which can lead to infertility.
