totally confused

I was told that chronic cervicitis was found in the pathology results after my hyster with cervix removed. I am now wondering if i still need to be concerned post-op seeing as many people tell me the vagina is made of the same tissue. I am approaching 5 wks post-op and sex is still a no go, but before i get the ok and resume sex with a new partner i'd like to know if my concerns are valid or not.

Are you saying that your cervix has been removed or you've had a hysterectomy or both - it was a bit unclear. Also were these results from a test taken prior to your surgery or after? If the infection was removed from the cervix during your surgery then I would think you should be at least on a course of antibiotics to clear the rest of the infection, however any sex from here on should obviously be done with extreme caution in terms of firstly condoms to prevent any infection being transmitted from or to you and secondly, any agitation or irritation to the cervical tissue could cause inflammation which could possibly cause another infection. You should talk with your dr about all of this before resuming sexual activities.

sorry it was unclear, yes cervix was removed during TAH.All my pap tests had came back clean. But after surgery pathology found chronic cervicitis. I haven't been sexually active with a partner in over 2 yrs since i was sexually assualted in feb of 2004. That is what has me so confused, could it have been there thatlong and not been detected?

Just remember because you do not have a cervix does not mean you can't contract viruses that are typically introduced or found in the cervix.  USE condoms!  Protect yourself from a dreadful desease like hpv, herpes, chlamydia etc........

I'm so sorry to hear about the sexual assualt...*******! I was also been sexually assualted - when I was 17. I am now 31 and although I have healed physically and emotionally - you never forget. I totally understand about you not having any sexual activity since then. Perhaps that is when you contracted the infection and it lay dorment for some time. I have read it is possible to have no symptoms with cervicitis - I don't know whether this is a good thing or bad thing as at least with some symptoms you have a heads up that something is wrong. Have you spoken with your dr about what you can do now that they have found these results? I would book an appointment to discuss this and get as much info as you can. Hope it turns out ok and you have a good recovery.
