random spotting?

For the past month, ive randomly been spotting. Its not anything like my normal periods, its very, very light. It lasts maybe a couple days, then stops. Following week it happens again. Im not on birth control of any sort. I took a pregnancy test a couple days ago and it was negative. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Also, not sure if it's relevant or not but my periods are usually very irregular. Doctor said something about pcos a few years ago being the reason for that.

Thanks for the response.  Not exactly a comforting thought to be honest tho. My husband and i were more or less trying but not trying. So ya... would really suck if its the same as what happened to you. Sorry for your loss btw.
