Can IBS affect your periods?

For 5 months now i have been experiancing irregular periods. Since May i have been worried about them and i have been going through a lot of anxiety but right now in september i have been pretty calmed down. But throughout this time i havebeen experiancing these symptoms: diarrhea/constipation ( i haven't been taking normal poops, i have gas, abdomnial pain, bloated, headache, dizziness, and some cramps. I have worried about pregnancy but all the tests i have taken fir the past 5months have been negative, but my periods remain light and abnormal to me. It comes out with brown discharge and alittle bit of red, and its light, or also called a scanty period. Can anyone help me?

I'm having the same symptoms:
1. Pregnancy scare: multiple negative home pregnancy tests
2. Episodes or diarrhea & constipation (constipation when stressed and anxiety attack)
3. Light period / period on time but not coming down
4. for a while I had breathing difficulty - did a pulmonary function test (all fine)
5. Increase urgency to urinate when under great stress / anxiety attack
6. Abdominal pulse / cramping

- Did complete routine blood tests; nothing wrong, no infection
- Did Ultrasound for abdomen, all fine, no fluids but abdomen filled with gas.
- Did ultrasound for uterus, tube and ovaries: nothing wrong

** weight loss was due to loss of appetite during anxiety (according to the doctors some people either eat more or less; depends on how that person handles their anxiety)

Thank you for your comment. I already had a pap smear and it said im healthy. Im age 22 and i never had a light period so i do get nervous at the thought of something wrong with me. Everytime i go to the doctor, they tell me its just stress and they keep suggesting pills for anxiety and to go on birth control, but i don't want to take pills, i know for a fact that they can mess up someone one way or another.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Irritable bowel syndrome is less likely to cause any delay in periods. The cause of irregular periods could be due to hormonal imbalance, stress, chronic illness, polycystic ovarian disease, thyroid gland disorders or diseases, pituitary gland tumors or cyst, galactorrhea, prolactinomas etc. You should consult a gynecologist and get examined and investigated as soon as possible to know the exact cause of all these episodes.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
