Dizziness, vision going black for 1 or 2 seconds.

Hi, I'm only 14 years old but yesterday I was sitting at my computer for a long time and when I stood up, I became dizzy and my vision faded and went black for about 2 seconds, then it came back to my normal sight. This has happened to me about 2 times in the past year. Is this anything serious? Should I be worried?

How long were you at the computer?  Where you concintrating on something like typing or anything.  Usually what happens is if you get up too fast or if you are concintrating on one thing and then focus on another, your vision takes a while to clear up again.

I have the same problem except I've had it for years and it never got worse... That's why I'm hoping someone here knows why

Just out of curiosity, have you ever had your vision checked? I remember when I was about your age I used to have dizzy spells and blurred vision towards the end of the school day. Come to find out I was farsighted and needed glasses. I didn't have to wear them all the time, just towards the end of the day. Also, Like the above poster, it could also be from sitting in front of the computer too long.

Hi -- that sometimes happens to me as well -- I work a 9 hour day in front of the computer & I'm usually a zombie by the end of the day... I find if I'm dehydrated that happens more -- also if I try not to focus soley on the computer screen but other things as well, that helps.

Hi, I had something similar, not blacking-out vision but blurred, that wouldn't straighten itself out for a few minutes, after focusing intently on a 2-hour test that was very tense in grad school.  I probably didn't even blink during that time, and as I was walking out of the lecture hall when it was over, my eyes just WOULDN'T focus. I was walking along in a blurry little fog.  Afterwards, I wrote it off to the eye muscles getting temporarily stuck into that position.  If there is any chance of you fainting, however, I would go get a workup.  Good luck!

If you are on any new medications that could be causing it.  I'm not a doctor but it sounds like orthostatic hypotension which means your blood pressure dips a little on standing.  I have had that happen to me when I am not eating enough.  Also antidepressants can cause this.  If it keeps happening every time you stand up I would get it checked out though.

I've had that same problem too. It's always after sitting or laying down. It's a really weird feeling, and I can understand why you would be concerned. Just be sure you have something to hang on to when you stand up, and if you don't I would suggest sitting down on the ground for a moment if you start to feel dizzy. One time I fell back and hit my head quite hard on a chair and had a seizure. Just be careful about it, and make sure your parents/guardian know about it.

I am 17 and this has been happening pretty much my whole life. Every now and then when I stand up to fast I get dizzy and see black spots but it clears up after a few seconds. I hear a lot of people have expirenced this so I wouldnt worry too much about it. I never actually even thought of it as abnormal. Only once have a fallen down because I thought it would be fun if I tired to run while I was in this dizzy blackoutish state. It was fun but I ended up on the floor. :-)

This is not meant to offend you, but are you dieting of have an eating disorder? I've been dealing with anorexia for 5 years, and what happened to you happens sometimes to you. I'm not sure if that's one of the symptoms for anemia, as one person suggested, but I know I'm not anemic, but the dizziness and loss of vision occurs. I'd suggest you talk to your doctor--either make an appointment, or mention it next time you see her/him.

Im 15 and i get that too, a lot of the time! I usually get it when ive been sitting down or concentration hard and stand up quite suddenly, and what I usually do is hold onto something or sit down until my vision gets better. Ive had about 3 nasty faints from not doing that so ivve learnt from my mistakes!

I am 25 get this pretty much evertime I stand up and it has been happening for about 4 years. It happens multiple time throughout the day pretty much every time I stand up. I also get when I get out of the car which is annoying because everyone walks on ahead and does not see you behind them and they leave you

The vision goes black and I have to brace myself or put my head between my knees because I am so dizzy. I usually count and end up at aorund 5-7 seconds. Then the vision slowly fades back in and I can move slowly.

I asked my doctor about it and told him that I eat right, exercise, drink water and it still happens every time. He said that it was because I was tall (6') and that the blood took a long time to reach my head.

I am going to look into taking more iron because I am an A- blood type and I hear that type can become anemic more easily than the others. I will try anything at this point. It is really hard to go about daily life when any time you want to move you have to brace yourself! It worries the hell out of my fiance too!

I'm 12 and the same thing happens to me every time I stand up. Its been happening for over a year now. I drink lots of water and I know I'm not anemic and I'm not on a diet and don't have an eating disorder.
I can't see for a second every time I stand up and sometimes I fall down or bump into things.
I think it could be because of low blood pressure. If you blood is moving slowly and you stand up, your blood is trying to rush to you head and legs at the same time but it can't get there fast enough so you can't see for a second or your vision gets blurred until your blood catches up with you.
I'd ask my parents to talk to your doctor about this, if I were you. My mom is calling my doctor's nurse about it tomorrow.

I'm 25 and every couple of months I suffer from the same problems.  Sometimes after lying down, sitting, or standing up after on my knees/crouched...I get nauseous...my vision will fade to black (not blurred)...and I'll get dizzy to the point of falling down.  It rarely lasts more than a few seconds.  I've gotten good at catching myself to prevent injury.  I'm not sure why but it will happen 3-4 times a day for a week, then stop for another couple months.

I've always had low blood pressure and am underweight normal weight (not sickly though) due to food allergies.  Its happen to me both at home and at work.  My doctor recommended more salt and fluids in my diet.  He didn't have an official prognosis but I suspect it's orthostatic hypotension, like others mentioned.

So im turning 18
and that whole dizziness and blackness thing has been happeneing for a very long time.
and it happens anytime
ill stand up and it goes black a little and i have to stand there and wait.
once when i was in 5th grade
i stood up, it went black, and i fell and almost broke my ankle.
i told my doctor when i was kinda little that i get dizzy alot
and he never did anything about it
then the blackness started.
i dont know if it is because I need glasses
or low blood pressure, which runs in my family.
if you could help me, that would be really nice, cause its rather annoying

HI, i know this was a long time ago but I have these symptoms and I am not anemic:
vision goes black for a few seconds
hearing loss for a few seconds
I get a sensation of a wave brushing through my body and up into my brain where it just stays and pounds and pounds. It hurts so bad.
I twitch and shake a little
I feel so so tired after
I have a major headache so bad I scream out
I am dizzy and my heart is racing so fast.
I am ALWAYS tired no matter how much sleep I get or how much I eat
We have tested EVERYTHING and nothing comes out.  They have diagnosed me with seizures but that's just a name to give to me.  We are continuing to test my heart and brain but nothing has come up so far.  It worsens around my period though.  It HAS to be something with my circulation, heart or brain though.
Have they found anything on you?

Hey, I'm a thirteen year of female, and for the past year I have been having a lot of problems that I believe are related. There was an incident a little over a year ago, and I started to forget about eating. I lost a lot of weight to were my pants would fall off of me. My boyfriend got worried and insisted that I eat. So I tried, but would end up throwing it up(not intentionally), getting diarrhea or constipation, or It would follow by stomach pains. So, I continued to not eat in fear this would keep occurring.  About a half a year later, I noticed I would get bruises very easily and when I would walk around everything in sight would blur and go white, making me dizzy and unable to keep balance. I thought this might be anemia. I also cannot eat over 500-800 calories in a day without gaining weight. Prior to all this happening..about a year before the incident..I was a vegetarian for a half a year. I have also overdosed a few times..& my stomach is not used to food, which is what I believe my problems are stemming from. Usually I am not able to eat solid foods or greasy foods. Soda, or anything with carbonation bothers me as well. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Also, additional information, I am 5'2 and 112lbs. Average for my age and height.

Its also a way to get out of school lolol whenever i dont want to go to school i get out of bed really quickly and get dizzy and fall over when my moms watching :) I know its dangerous but i just hate school so much! lmao for other girls new to this dont panick to much, its no big deal unless you faint :b

Hi, I'm almost 19 and I've been dealing with this problem for a few years now. It usually happens when I stand up or even sit up, I get extremely dizzy, my vision goes completely black, and I lose my balance and usually slam into the wall or I cling to a doorway until I can see again, which can take more than ten seconds. I've even had it happen in the shower, but I think that was due to the lack of food and the high temperature of the water. I also get very painful headaches during and after they happen. I haven't thought about going to the doctor because I never thought it would get to the point it is now. But seeing from the comments above, I really think I need to get checked out as soon as possible before it gets really bad.

I've noticed that they seem to have gotten worse lately. I've even had it happen when I was driving, which is THE scariest thing if you're on the highway going fast. I recommend getting checked out soon before it reaches to a level like mine!
