yeast infections every month...help?

well i've been on the birth control Reclipsen for almost a year now. the past few months in a row ive been getting a yeast infection the week before my period. ive never had a problem with yeast infections until i got on this birth control. by the way, this is my first time being on birth control. i'm also having problems getting wet before sex. i'll be completely into it but still nothing happens. i dont know if this is from the yeast infections but i never had this problem before. i havent gone to my doctor about it and i havent tried any over the counter medications like monistat. im not sure if i should try switching to a different birth control. i really dont know what to do. please help!

I had a bad experience with one type of birth control pill and it's side effect was bad thrush (yeast infection).  The solution was to change my pill.  I lasted 2 months on the other one.

But yeast infection can be caused by other things.  Have you been on antibiotics recently?  That can cause thrush.

Some women have low grade thrush especially near their periods and it's linked to the oestrogen cycle (this might be why some pills are particularly bad for thrush).

Something else that might help is probiotics to recolonise your gut with good bacteria and it will work it's way down.  Also keeping your vaginal area acidic.  This may be done with diet.  Antibiotics like to make this area alkaline.

Hi anna,
I feel your pain.  Ive been in the same boat for  a couple of years.  My doctor kept on treating me for it, then i would get a bacterial infection.  Finally my doctor cleaned me out with betadine and everything was normal for about 6 months.  Now i thought it was back because cm was the same consistency, went to the obgyn, and tests came back negative for yeast or bacteria.  She said womens cm gets thicker before period. Im 29 but i think its just my body changing a bit.  She said not to worry about it.  Ive been tested for everything and i have nothing wrong with me.  Its cyclical and always occurs a week after ovulation.  Then i get my period and im back to normal.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.  (0h, I dont have itching with it..... otherwise i can see how it could be an annoying problem)  Good luck.

Hi anna,
I "never" suffered from yeast infections in my whole life either; until.....the doctor put me on a low dose Birth Control pill (to help treat endometriosis).  That was my first time being on the pill and my last.

In my case, the Birth Control pill was the sole cause of the yeast infections just before my period; as well as, high blood pressure (I never experienced high blood pressure either until I got on Birth Control pills).  I am not saying that this is what is causing "your" symptoms; but, I kindly share with you "my personal experience" with BC pills.

The OBGYN who prescribed the BC pills, as well as, my family doctor were very adament that the BC pill had 'absolutely nothing' to do with either condition; although I started experiencing them approx. 6 months after beginning the BC pills.

I informed both doctors about my decision to discontinue the BC pills after completing the pack for the month to see if that was the problem.  They disagreed with me in that both doctors felt adament it was not the problem; but, gave me the go ahead so that I could find out for myself that they were right.

It turned out they were wrong.  After discontinueing the BC pills, my blood pressure quickly returned to normal for the fist time since being on the pill for 2 yrs. And when it was coming time to start my period, I suffered no more yeast infections.

I've been OFF the pill now for 18 yrs. and as a result, I've never suffered another yeast infection or abnormaly high blood pressure ever since.

I hope you find "your" answer soon.

Blessings and Pleasant thoughts to you.

Well, speaking from expierence some birth controls kill your sex drive. I was on Yasmin for 2 years, before I started it I loved sex and would always want it. But after a few months on it, it went way down. I've stopped taking it this month and my sex drive is back. Thats almost the # 1 bad side affect from birth control. As far as the yeast infections go....if your having sex (without a condom) chances are you could be giving it to your partner and keep getting infected. Or I think for some its common to get yeast infections around the time of your period too. Also birth control can do that to you too. Have you talked to your doctor about it?
