Home testing

I had an exposure a couple of years ago that had me concerned. I looked up home testing and bought one online to do in the privacy of my home unaware that only one was FDA approved. The one I got came from Hong Kong and involved disinfecting my finger and doing a finger prick with a one time lance and placing a drop of blood on a test area and then placing two drops of activator onto the drop of blood, waiting twenty minutes and then looking at the result. I tested negative but I was just looking into this and now it seems that since this is not a test FDA approved I may not be able to believe these results?

Good question Teak. I assumed at the time that it would be the company that I got the test from. I was naive to assume that all HIV tests are created equal and it would be similiar to the Home Access one. Who tests those and approves them? You've answered my questions and I will go into the doctors office and have one done.

Thanks Teak. I am not that worried anymore about my HIV status as I was two years ago. I spoke with the man I had sex with and he assured me that he had been tested several times for work reasons and always tested negative. I only did the test for my peace of mind but it looks like for that peace of mind now I will need to be tested by a doctor. Everything about the test seemed good though, you could send it back in for analysis and they had a phone number to call for any questions so I didn't feel like it was a scam so I am still confused as to why it wouldn't be a valid test
