breast seroma 4 1/2 years out

I was diagnosed with Right Breast Cancer Stage IIB, HER2+, had bi-lat. mastectomy with reconstruction (silicone implants) and chemo 4 1/2 years ago and now present with a left swollen breast. Ultrasound and MRI report seroma. Had a needle guided biopsy with a drain in place for 5 weeks now outputting 30cc's clear fluid.  Implants are intact on MRI.  No trauma, redness, fever, etc.  Surgeon seems perplexed-what could cause this 4 1/2 years later? Thought a seroma is from surgery or trauma.

This discussion is related to seroma.

As a rule a seroma does occur immediatly after surgery just as you say. I too am perplexed .... I was thinking possibly some type of reaction to the implants since you state they are intact. You certainly have a mystery there and it needs more investigation .... please let us know if you get any further information about the cause. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.  Regards ....
